Next Version of the Submariner
When do you guys think Rolex will update the Submariner next, considering the latest version was released in 2012? Also, what kind of changes do you expect Rolex to make? I just thought it would be fun to have a thread where we can theorize!

Slimmer lugs, more like the SD4K. Not next year though, too soon.

Apparently the GMT is due a refresh first as it's longer in the tooth with the ceramic bezel

Well apart from a few mainly cosmetic changes the sub has changed very little since introduction of the cal 3135 in 1988.So would expect the change to the cal 3235 sometime in the future again other changes just mainly cosmetic. Cannot see any reason to change any of the Sub range as IMHO except for the introduction of ceramic inserts they were just about perfect.

Like a few members say, the addition of 3235 movement. I cannot see a major design change to the case/bracelet. It's pretty well balance.
Personally, I think it's time for them to kill off the Hulk, and bring in a new/fresh color design. Perhaps, a Red Sub?

They prob will beefy up the bracelet a bit in thickness to suit new customer. Give that stronger feel for some.

I sure hope he don't change the bracelet, it's perfect! The strong taper is what makes it so comfortable, had a BB with its wide bracelet and never did get comfortable with it. The Sub bracelet is super comfortable though and I think the thinness of the clasp area is a huge factor in that.
I love the Sub C and really doubt they'll change much. The lugs could be thinned a bit, other than that toss the new movement in and leave the rest alone. |

Why does it need to be updated?

I also think it's perfect the way it currently is. I even have come to like the bigger lugs. Just another unique part to the look of the watch with the great heritage!
Bracelet size is absolutely perfect, even on the Deepsea imho. So comfortable!!! |

I really don't see platinum Sub a reality. Platinum is really a very small niche in watches, and due to the price point, the average person can't afford it. You have a choice between yellow and white gold, what more do you really need? I really don't think the Sub will change any time soon.

I wonder what thinned lugs and a 22mm bracelet would look and feel like. Often times I feel like the transition from the newer thicker lugs to a 20mm bracelet looks a bit awkward. A 21 or 22mm bracelet may help balance out the aesthetics and wear. Upgraded movement is almost certain.

It's got to be one or the other.
What's cheaper for production ? Thin out the lugs or enlarge the bracelet ? I'd say thin out the lugs. |
