I had a random guy at a bar ask me the age old "is that real"

I couldn't believe it. Was wearing a 15400.

Younger people are more in tune to AP these days in the United States, due to them being popular among musicians, Hollywood and athletes.

Nowhere near Rolex but their brand name recognition is up.

I was at Tiffany's in Houston yesterday looking at Patek's. The salesman was chatting me up about my 15400. That's pretty much the only time I was asked about my AP. Nobody else recognizes it.

One time when I was at a dinner table with a guy who lives in Switzerland.

More like he went past by the factory and was happy to see it in person. Was wearing my 44

Have a 15400 since Jan 2016.

First time was at an Omega boutique.

Second time was at the NYC AP boutique.

Third was my favorite: high school kid giving me my order at McDonalds drive thru. "Oh, man! Is that an AP?!"

At a sunny day BBQ last weekend someone asked, "Is that a new watch?" And as I began to smile to show it to them they said, "Because it's really shiny and it's bothering my eyes." Lol

Flies completely under the radar, which is one of many reasons I love it.

I have a 15305OR and perhaps due to being rose gold have gotten asked about
It a few times.
Funniest comment was walking into a restaurant. Guy in front of me holds the door open for me and says, "Go ahead, a man with that AP deserves it!"

Quite often, perhaps they are more recognizable in LA (or maybe all the rampant gold diggers). Most of the recognition comes from my RG AP watches.

BTW I recently saw a Justin Bieber calendar and was disappointed to see on his wrist AP so I guess this kinda thing is why the teenagers will recognise it.

I had a couple co-workers mention it, who turned out to be WIS's as well. But other than that only a few other times where people have mentioned it in passing

Only once, by a dancer on a friend's stag/bachelor night who was trying to get me to go into the Champagne Room. I felt awful saying no, never met another "AP WIS" before and the one time I do I have to shut them down.

My RG44 and RG Skeleton attracts sporadic attention and query from others including strangers at times. I guess because it's gold. The other 4 pieces not much. Of course if WIS, they notice all of them. AP is not exactly the brand to choose if one prefers the timepiece being under the radar.

It's happened a few times. Usually it goes something like...

Them: cool looking watch. What kind is it?
Me: an Audemars Piguet
Them: a what?
Me: Audemars Piguet
Them: and Auda...what? Or butcher the name
Me: an AP

They tend to draw attention because of the size and finish but the brand still tends to fly under the radar outside of the WIS community.

I've received a lot of compliments on the Diver along the lines of "that's a really nice looking watch" but only one or two people (outside of ADs) have actually mentioned the brand: I recall one nice gentleman wearing a PAM 104 who come up to me and offer effusive praise for the AP while I was at a resort pool once, he really loved the piece.

The 15400 has gotten lots of glances and had one lovely young lady compliment me on it who knew what it was.

I think the unique appearance and superb finishing/faceting are definitely going to catch people's attention, even if they don't know the brand, but most people won't know what it is.

I had a few mentions on my 15400 last summer as I wore it a lot with rolled up sleeves. A real a state agent, some random kids on the street, a few people working in retail have complemented.

love the "nice Hublot"
I have never in 3 years been even once asked about my AP in the wild, except by a few friends who know I like watches, and that's probably 2-3 times as even with friends who don't care about watches I don't talk about my watches.

Just generic comments from people I know ("What kind of watch is THAT?"). I only ever once got a comment from a stranger and I was wearing my PAM 233 (the comment was "cool PAM" so he was obviously a WIS).

Living in NYC I see Royal Oaks on wrists here and there. As long as it's not awkward, I usually throw out a "nice watch!" I always assumed the owner would know I do actually recognize the brand/model.

Interesting to read that the recipient may not realize I know what the watch is, but am just complimenting something shiny. :)

Nice watch is the only watch compliment I will ever offer and only if the situation is right (rarely ).

It offers the person no obligation to say anything but thanks and keep it moving.

Once l was in a cafe, and the waiter commented on my AP ROO Panda. He asked several questions, not knowing much about AP. I told him where they sell them in Melbourne. A few weeks later l happened in the same cafe again, and said to me "man, thats a $30,000!" l just said "l know, it's a great watch though!"
