Has the 15407ST become the most coveted RO?

If the prices on Chrono24 are any indicator; the cheapest one is like $52K. How real are these prices though? I have zero experience in chrono24:

I don't know about most coveted but it's definitely one of the most popular models ever. The lowest I've seen one traded was 48-50K.

I think they can look a bit too busy and maybe even overwhelming, as opposed to the 15202, so I suspect it is more shortage of supply than great over demand.

Can confirm that many of the listings on chrono24 are outdated and no longer available. The newest listing on chrono24 is $62k which is probably a tad optimistic. There are a few on fleabay starting at $52k, however.

I personally love the 15407. It really could be my favorite RO.

There's also one report of someone on reddit who paid $58k ::gulp::

There are plenty of boutiques I've called around in Asia who have closed their lists and are no longer accepting deposits for this watch, citing that they do not have
a release schedule and have no way of knowing when they'll get an allotment. The gold version appears to be much more readily available, as I have seen two in the flesh already (one at an AD and one at a grey).

The reason for it's popularity I think is the price disparity between it and the RG version, or rather it's price is good value compared to the RG version. There's also a waiting list for this if I am not wrong. Very impressive watch for sure. If the opportunity arise, I might actually add one to my collection even though I have the older 39mm RG version.

They make very few, if they start to make much more prices on grey market will go down, really hesitated getting one, but I think I have too many SS Genta style watches already for my small collection, but it is in my radar and if one day I decide to consolidate, might sell the 15300 and get one, but I kind of like the 300, pure Genta style but with a modern take, second hand, quick set date, screw down crown, and discontinued

It's insane. 2+ year wait now. I saw it in the AP catalog and wanted it. Now I can't have it which only makes me want it more, lol.

I honestly prefer the 15305 but still would be elated to own the 15407.

The rose gold bridge , hands and hour markers really make the 15407 pop. I love it.

I was fortunate to get one in the first batch release from a boutique. I had to put down a 25% deposit and it took a few months.. about 4 or so

I love, love that watch.

That said, i don't think its the most coveted RO. The prices on the secondary market are more a product of the very low production numbers than some crazy mass market demand. Further, i think the high premium is then driving more of the interest in the model than the model itself. As soon as something becomes super hard to get then more people want it. Psychology 101

I'll admit I have not seen this piece in person but those are detractors for me as I feel it shifts the balance of the dial. Totally splitting hairs and I'm a sucker for the 39mm case as well.

I wonder if they are still producing the openwork in a 39mm case now that this model is out. Too bad these companies aren't a little more nimble and could increase production of hot sellers (15407, SS Daytona's) and slow production of the slow movers.
It seems like they set a production # and don't listen to the market.

I believe there is a difference in producing the Daytonas versus the AP15407. The later requires more time to assemble whereas the Daytonas are more assembly line produced. Therefore, I think there is more of a purposeful limitation in Daytona production.

agreed. The time to open work a dial like that is a lot. AP could not double or triple production if they tried without significantly reducing production of other pieces which also sell well. If i was guessing based on man-hours alone I would say the 15407 has a lower profit margin for them than most of their other pieces generally. Its more a watch to show their capability more than anything. There is no way this was ever intended to be produced on a RO 15400 scale which is big by AP standards, minuscule by Rolex standards.

Sure, I understand. An AP openworked complicated watch requires about 200 hours of extra work due to the complexity of the movement and refinishing.
There definitely is a bottleneck point to increase production which is likely the skilled manual labor.
But for the SS Daytona and 5711, etc I would increase production without flooding the market. Just makes good business sense. Instead of continuing to make pieces that AD's can't sell or end up off loading at steep discounts or to grey dealers.

Maybe we should just close this thread. It would potentially save us all tens of thousands

For the skeletons with grand complications. I think for the Royal Oak they stated 60+ hours on the tour.

I ordered this book. It's a fun read on the history of AP. Also it looks like they make about 200 Royal Oak skeleton models a year, so while not technically a limited edition it's a small supply.
