As a displaced (misplaced?) Chicagoian I completely agree. So hard to find decent pizza anywhere in this state. Problem solved!!!

Lou's is the best. Get it every time I'm in Chicago. Get frozen ones shipped but still not perfect.

Amen!! Moved to fla. From N.Y 2 years ago, and man, can't find pizza or bagels. We have a few friends here, and I make a few pies on Friday nights. I just wish I can go out for a good pie once in a while. Bagels??? My wife's friend is coming down on Saturday, and she's bringing us 3 dozen from Back home!!

It's the water(said in my best NYC accent)!¡

So,moved from NY to Fl a long time ago. Used to need deliveries. If you are in South Florida it should be easy to find both.

I can't help with any suggestions near you but if you're ever in Miami Beach, Lucali is the only way to go. I prefer it to the Brooklyn original

I'll look it up if I go to Miami! I think my favorite is Johns of Bleeker St. (no slices) pies only!!

It's only one night of Lou's, then we have to suffer through our awful pizza all over again!

I was just in Chicago and went to Lou's. Deep dish is a great treat, but my favorite is the thin slice. I am from CT and lived closed enough to NYC to eat a lot of pie. I think I may even be an expert being from New Haven.....the real pizza capital!! Pepe's is ok, but Tom and Pats in West Haven is the best I have had. They ship to me in RI....more like a special courier because they know I need my pie.

Deep dish is good but give me a New York slice any day of the week. Paper plate, fold that sucker in half and I'm on my way.

Agreed. The heftier Chicago style has a unique and appealing characteristic all its own. It's definitely a 'sit-down' dining endeavor. NY style being significantly thinner is more of an 'on the run' pizza.

Nevertheless, there's nothing wrong with offering various interpretations of other classic regional Pizza styles. The only problem that potentially arises is in accurately recreating these variations. Factors such as local H2O, regionally-delivered meats and cheeses go a long way in replicating certain geographic and culinary characteristics.

Probably why a good bagel or semi-authentic Philly Cheesesteak is hard to find in CA. The same would probably apply to other U.S. regions trying to recreate traditional SF sourdough French bread.

I've had it. It's good, but I prefer a slice.

Culinary tastes aren't any different in Chicago than anywhere else, and a lot of people like their pizza. I think there will be plenty of customers for this style of pizza in any large metropolitan area.

I think they will do fine on brand name alone. I'm sure there are plenty of local places in NYC already pedaling Chicago style. I know of a couple here in Buffalo and we are much smaller market of course. We also have our own style of pizza but it's not going to catch on nationwide me thinks....oh well people liked the wings idea. We shall pretend that was an accomplishment

For me pizza only needs a few ingredients. Flour, salt, egg, yeast, EVOO, San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. Put in the hottest oven you can find and enjoy.

A quick Google Streetview search shows that Ben's on W3rd is still there

I used to get a slice there most days when I worked next door in 1984. Back then I think there were just two options, Slice or Sicilian Slice, no extra toppings. It was $1 a slice I think. I was making $5/hr so it was a cheap lunch or dinner.

That particular 'pizza parlor' is very well-known amongst the locals and I recall it being included/shown on an episode of Pizza Masters (a cable television show devoted to pizza) a few months back.
