Weird Observation

Having worn my BLNR for over a year, exactly three people have commented on it: supermarket checkout kid, TSA officer at the airport and a used car salesman.

A couple months ago I was complimented on my Milgauss by a young kid selling phone packages at the local AT&T store. We had a great conversation about Rolex. He was saving for a TT DJ.

You never know where you'll find a WIS lurking.

Three years with the 116710 GMTcII and maybe 5 people have said something ( funny one was a supermarket checkout kid too ). Four months with the Panerai PAM111 and I've already had 5 people ask to see it or recognize it as a Panerai.

Only Rolex I've ever received a compliment on was my SubC, three times. Once by my brother in law, once by the 22 year old intern who wants a Cellini, and once by my boss who said "Nice Omega". I'll take it.

This past Monday the cashier at Roche Brothers (Supermarket) said to me as I was inserting my card to pay "nice watch, is that a Citizen?" Had my D-Blue on.. i can't remember the last time anyone commented on it.

The other day I saw a guy in a local super market... he had on a nice looking GMT and I had on my Daytona. I wanted to say something, but it felt too personal/awkward. I believe more people notice than we think, but they're just not comfortable commenting.

Me too. Never had one comment on a Rolex I owned. My speedy and Tudors, but not the Rolex.

come to my shop and I will compliment your watch as well, lol. I wear my 116688 YM2 and yesterday I had two separate clients back to back wearing the gold sub 16808 one had a crock band instead of original and the other had the green bezel and dial so I complimented his modified green sub

I work in a main agent prestige vehicle dealership and will often compliment someone if I see them wearing a nice watch. Most of the time people seemed pleased I've noticed and say thanks, other times I've ended up having an hour long conversation before we even end up moving on to talking about a car!

Actually in the office we talk about watches instead of business a little more than we should, often a customer will come in and someone will say something like 'this guy I'm with has a lovely Rolex Explorer'

Across the office we have various watches, we have a steel ceramic GMT, a bi-metal pre-ceramic Sub, a 1983 Datejust, a Tudor Blackbay and my own 1991 Sea-Dweller. Plus a nice 'Moon to Mars Omega Speedy! A Panerai GMT, a Bremont GMT and a scattering of other Breitlings, Omegas and Tags.

So if you feel like a compliment on your watch pop and and see us!

I often see people who I am talking to suddenly start looking at my wrist, however not one of them has ever said anything, and I don't either.

I do smile to myself as I move my arm and watch their eyes follow it.

Same, people do notice but most don't make a comment. I always wondered why that was, I am always the first to compliment someone if they have a nice watch

Outside of watch dealerships, I've had more comments on my PAM 689 than all of my (four) Rolex put together. Thing is, here in Singapore they're all over the place so very few people really cares.

I've not had a single comment in the UK, although a new guy at one of our London offices sells watches that he builds on the side. It's a chrono that he offers with a lifetime (his lifetime) warranty against defect. Anyhoo, he was clocking my wrist when I was last in London. No comments though.

Sounds like you need a new boss!. Lol

I had a regular customer at the pawn shop notice that I wear different watches all the time. He commented one day while I was wearing my navitimer, "Nice watch, I notice you wear a different about every day of the week. It's cool. I collect invicta watches too!" Lol. Otherwise it's other employees or folks I shoot with at the field club (I'm the poor guy there as they all wear SO, PP, ALS, and the like) that notice and comment on my watch.

To know the future is to be trapped by it

The other day the family and I went to Chipotle for lunch. Going threw the line the kid said nice watch what kind is it? I said a Rolex. He said nice I have an Invicta that looks just like it. My comment to that was yeah the sub is a highly copied piece. First time for me anyone has compared any of my pieces to Invicta. This doesn't bother me at his age I wore a Citizen and dreamed of a Movado. My how things can change in a short time.

In over 40 plus years of wearing Rolex and Patek watches, my watch has commented on once. That was by the guy in the Burger King window. He liked my Patek Natulus.

It's because they don't know what brand it is.

I work at a big Silicon Valley tech co and don't see many peers who appreciate nice watches. The other day I was in a GVC with a few co-workers and one was wearing a 47mm PAM. I almost couldn't believe it. Towards the end of the meeting I decided to compliment him on it and we talked for a bit about our love for our PAM's. About the only time I've been able to do that and was pretty stoked. My manager was in the meeting too and just laughed as she couldn't have cared less.

I have had one compliment on the BLNR, I was in line on a cruise ship with my daughter and the dude ahead of me has a Coke GMT and was a bit of a collector.

On the Panerai 663 or my Ennebi I have had multiple compliments. Majority did not know what watch it was ... Ennebi on being unique looking as it is bronze ... and the Pam663 I think because with the chocolate dial, cool strap and 47mm ... it is an imposing cool looking watch.

I tend to compliment folks frequently ... Working in the aviation industry, I see a number of Rolex ... mostly Subs or GMT .... on other Directors or pilots .... some Omega on random folks ... and Tag on leaders early in their career ... Every once in a while a Navtimer .... There are a number of WIS in my company who are in my circle through the system, but most of the folks who have a nice watch seem to just have the one. Our senior VP has a really nice IWC.
