Losing Interest?

Been a while since I've really sought after a watch. 8 Watches in my collection and I am not looking for that one last one! This feels odd. I had plans to add one after Basel but thing took my fancy.

Is it me or have things in the new watch world got somewhat predictable and (dare I say it) Boring?

No dragons left! (for now)
How about you guys?

No change for me. I'm still very much in love with it all. I've got 6 in the collection and I'm looking to add a PAM in a couple months and I'm already thinking about the one after that, possibly a AP ROO... But I'm waiting for the new in house chrono movement.

I'd like a nautilus as well but availability is ridiculous right now. I started to appreciate patek after I got my RO, otherwise I never thought I'd think about patek anytime soon...also I think I got in the game a bit late :-/ that's probably why I'm in overdrive lol

I think interest ebbs and flows. If nothing interests you now, save your money in case something is released at a later date. I'm guessing this is a temporary feeling

Well I am super happy with my actual 5 watches, 2 AP and 3 PP, but am anxiously waiting for my Voutilainen unique piece to be finished, there is delay as the engraving was a little too different from the project I had agreed on, so am anxiously waiting for that one, but once I have it I should be done for a while, not that other models don't interest me, but will have more than 200k in watches, and not unlimited funds, so if I wanted a new one I would have to sell something, selling real estate or stocks is out of the question, and don't want to sell any of my actual watches, sure I have 3 which are very similar, AP 15300, PP 5711/5712, but in reality they are different enough to please me, I enjoy wearing all of them, which wasn't the case before when I had around 10, not so high end, well 3 were high end, but the rest was Rolex and Pams. I think with my 5 plus the Vouti, I should be quite happy for many years, I never wanted to have many, if I only had 3 plus the Vouti I would be more than happy, but added the 15300 and 5711 because I could and love the Genta style, maybe will consolidate by selling 2-3 in 4-5 years to get a special piece, but not before

I am on a Seiko and Orient kick. Still have a watch jones, but not psyched to spend four or five digits.

Interest does come and go. I bought my Sub LVC 5 years ago then 3 years later I picked up a Sub GMT II C. Now, 2 years after that I'm looking for a DD Pres. I know someone who's been content with their collection for almost a decade without adding anything. To each their own.

I'm content with my current collection but certainly interested in a few more timepieces..some old, some new. Unfortunately my heart says yes but my pockets say no...

Cut down massively and can't spend nearly as much time on the hobby as I used to. A much smaller number of higher value pieces in my current collection. Too many poor experiences have really affected my enjoyment.

Pretty happy with current set up. Just did a small trade. Moved a watch that I never wear.
The last 6 months or so have been quiet for me too. Nothing really pulling me to acquire.
Been through the modern, then vintage, then modern phases....
Lately been more interested in cars and golf but still like to check in regularly with my internet brothers here.

Any chance you might elaborate on too many poor experiences?

Poor communication, broken promises and lack of information from certain top brands, lots of reliability issues and a couple of examples of truly shocking warranty service. Several problematic deals with used dealers in the last 18 months or so. No real problems for many years before. Buy backs not honoured, watches not precisely as described, broken watches delivered, trade bids considerably below market (well beyond the usual bid/offer spread). Also a much increased number of time wasters on here, with a total absence of basic courtesies.

Of course things happen and things don't always work out, but the volume has increased a lot as the market has found itself a little more difficult. Also a lot more nasty stories on legitimate ADs than ever used to be the case. In difficult times, I guess a lot of people start to cut corners.

Great points! Thank you for the detailed reply. Sincerely hope that things improve.I enjoyed the hobby a lot.Might take the brands a few years to make a good comeback and for the market to recover.

My collection grew to six, which was too many for me. I gradually consolidated down to four, and am pretty content with it (particularly as there's nothing really calling my name right now).

No change. Always looking and comparing what is out there to what is in my collection. I have branches out a bit and picked up two Tag Heuer watches. The LE Monza and the new Autavia. I am impressed.

Losing Interest?

I could unload everything except my BLNR and sentimental pieces and be cool, but where's the fun in that? I'd like to trade out my exp II for a sd43 or hulk, and add something to mix it up later like a PAM or SMP..... 3 is my max for a rotation I think.

Haven't lost interest and ultimately would like to have a PP 5370P on my wrist. $$$ is the issue, not a lack of interest or passion.

The hobby now seems to be more about money rather than passion for fine watchmaking which it used to be a while back. So I have lost interest in that respect.

I have lost a some interest this past year, after getting an AP, a PP and 7 Rolex watches last year alone.
However, I am still into horology and love talking about it, just slowing down a bit and spending less time and money compared to past 2 years.
Having said that, I probably will get a Basel 2017 watch soon

If one is loosing interest-- less likely to be reading threads on this site.. so a bit of ascertainment bias in the poll
