They can barely predict the weather accurately for the next 72 hours !! Buy and enjoy what you will get the most satisfaction out of TODAY I like them both but would go for the sub out of the 2! Good luck |

I like the explorer with the white face. The sub 16610 is more common and everyone and there mother has one. I got the sub 16610 2001 for $3800 and added a genuine green bezel for $140.00 I could not resist the price I got it for.

You are comparing apples to oranges. You are asking about an out of production watch vs a current production.
You are also asking about Sub, which is highly popular vs Explorer II which is not as popular and factually has a significantly worse resale value. I happen to own one of each. I think the Explorer II is one of the best values in the secondary market...great watch, but not real popular for whatever reason. Personally, I don't care, and actually like that it isn't as popular, because it's cheap! If you care about such things, most factual data points to the Sub having better value retention both short and long-term, but who know. But what you like. |

The paradox here is that the model becoming "most collectable" is probably the model you like the least...

The Explorer II is such a great buy pre owned ATM it's hard to resist. I purchased one last week and have no regretted it. It's the lowest demand sports model and the price on the secondary market reflects that. I don't understand why demand is low because it's a stunning watch especially the Polar version.

The sub is a much better choice in my opinion. Far more iconic, therefore it will retain it's value very well. Especially with the 16610 reference in particular I believe they are at the absolute low point in their depreciation so it's really only going to climb in price from here on.

It would be pretty terrible to stare at your wrist for 25 years waiting to sell the watch you never really liked in the first place and that you bought only because it "might" be worth a bit more money or be more collectable. |

The Explorer is less popular right now. Models which don't sell well tend to be collectible once they become discontinued.
That said I would not buy either based on future collectibility. Buy what you like and what you want to wear. The 25 years of enjoyment will be worth more than a few thousand dollars profit IMO. |
