Survivor ROO

Hi Guys : Thinking about getting something out of the norm for a ROO. Been thru multiple 44's want something that's different and stands out. Something that is uncommon to even someone who knows and owns AP's. The survivor comes to mind. Looking for input on the model, I know it's a love or hate it piece because of the push guards, case & bezel design but that's what's attracting me to it. Would love to hear your thoughts. Found a mint one on TRF complete set for 31K. Here are some pics for reference. Happy 4th to us Americans !

I personally think the 44FC with a GP strap gives off the same look and honestly looks cooler. If you want something to stand out amongst other APs in the crowd, I'd look at RB2s or Schumis...I trust you won't come across many in your gatherings.

Definitely a rare ROO for sure... and one I am sure will hold its value over the years. Good luck with the choice!

I know I'm in the minority here, but that one isn't for me. I do appreciate it in pics a lot, however I just don't think on my wrist i would like it.

I just can't get into the older style bezel screws. In time maybe i will, but I'm not there yet.

Its rare for sure so it does have that going for it though.

Good choice! The Survivor is one of the most controversial LE, some hated it! For me, she's a beast with character!

I love it, but absolutely needs to be scrutinised up close in person before buying. If the coating is coming off, costly to repair - AP normally replaces the part rather than re-coating.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Survivor, ref : 261651O.OO.A002CA.01, limited edition to 1000 pieces worldwide was launched in 2008. In my opinion, this is the most unique Royal Oak Offshore LE ever produced by AP.

The case, crown and the chrono pusher guards are made of blackened PVD titanium, where the perforated bezel and chrono pushers are made of ceramics. What Audemars Piguet does incredibly well is the finishing on the case, the way the brushed finish looks on the blackened titanium is just amazing, Although the case measures 42mm, the Survivor feels significantly larger due to the protruding chrono pusher guards and overall thickness of the watch measures 15.65mm. It feels more like a 50mm, however, it's very comfortable with the textured rubber strap and the tang buckle. The watch is so light that it almost feel nothing on your wrist! The perforated ceramic bezel on the watch is simply gorgeous and it's also scratch proof unless it met with another ceramic. The matte black dial has a striking “mega tapisserie” patten, where the tapisserie pattern has become synonymous to Audemars Piguet. The Survivor is powered by the manufacture Audemars Piguet calibre 3126/3840 with a selfwinding movement that has 59 jewels, 365 parts with a power reserve of 55 hours, the ironic 22-carat gold rotor with ceramic ball-bearings is hidden inside the back case with a thick and nice raised engraving that reads "Royal Oak Offshore Survivor Limited Edition".

The design of the polished white gold hands looks like the jungle survivor knife.

The second hand looks some kind of sniper aiming fore sight.

The crown features the M16/AK47 assault rifle's muzzle.

The chrono pusher guards as the hand grenade safety levers.

The above give the watch a muscular look and really for jungle warfare.

Thanks for the input guys. Especially Sam for the write up & fantastic pics. I've considered the piece very carefully and Roger makes a great point with the PVD wearing off and having to replace, might and will break the bank. I've now been offered the legacy at a digestible price so now that's in the mix. We shall see. Some pics from the seller.

My fave is the Schumacher in TI or PT, then between these 2 the legacy, dlc is great, but if it scratched off you are screwed, so no pvd or even dlc which is better for me

You won't believe it but it's my second time around with. I had it first outta of all the new 44's. Then I wanted the new RG44 so I got that, then wanted the chrono blue so I sold the RG44 and then missed having a 44 so got the Ti44. I felt the Ti was missing the wow factor. I wanted a ROO that stood out, thus was considering the Survivor, legacy but I felt the new ceramic was the best of all worlds. So got it today. Thanks for the session doc ! - At the AD

- My previous one.

The best part is the timeframe. They are all new releases, so all that flipping had to have been done in the last four months or so. That part makes it epic.

SIHH 2018 is going to be rough for you I'm thinking

My AD is very accommodating & don't even bring up 2018. Forget the watches I might need a divorce lawyer.
