Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm or 39mm?

Hey guys,

I have been saving for a while and have hit around the halfway mark for buying a Rolex Oyster Perpetual! I am super excited. However, I'm uncertain of whether to go for the 39mm or 36mm? I have a 17.5cm (6.8") wrist and I am 25 year old male who works in a corporate environment. I don't like my watches to be too flashy, I prefer the "stealth wealth" look. Will the 36mm be too small for my wrist? The 39mm is definitely on my mind, however, I'm not really a big fan of the blue dots in the dail, above the hours.

any advice or opinions would be appreciated :)

I think you will find that most people here will recommend you stop by an authorized dealer and try on the options. That's really gonna be the best way to know what will fit _you_ the best. Your wrist is sized such that both will probably work just fine. But go see which you like best before buying. Good luck!

I would go with 39mm. I wish they would make Datejust also with 39mm instead of 41...

I have a 6.5 in. wrist and wouldn't think twice about the 39mm version. That is the one I'd go for in a heart beat.

OP36 or 39 I would pick without doubt 39mm.
Between 116200 and 114300 I would choose for a Rolex with "date" function.
116200 in 39 mm would be a dream.........

The DJ41 is actually 39mm wide I believe from what I have read...never measured it myself...

Definitely go for 39mm in preference to 36mm.

Just wish they made the 39mm without that terrible blue tinge in it, completely throws off the minimalism/simplicity of it

Second pic looks really nice.

What are the chances Rolex release a 39mm without the coloured pips/markers?

I don't want to purchase one and then the following year they release one without the colours

An old fashioned 36 works fine for me, it seems to wear 'bigger' than my Explorers....

In the minority but having tried them both I prefer the 36 myself. Lovely watch very under the radar and avoids the dodgy coloured dots!

39mm definitely for me!! If you don't like the dots get the new Explorer 1 with the lume and longer hands. This guy sitting behind me on a plane had the Explorer 1 and it was sweeet!

I think 39 mm is great size and OP represents great value for money. This is probably the best $ value Rolex you can buy brand new.

I think 39mm is a better size but as others have said you really need to try them on.

The 39mm Oyster Perpetual is a nice looking watch, it's just a shame how extremely disappointing lume is.

Have you considered the Explorer? It's not that much more expensive than the 39mm OP and in my honest if slightly biased opinion it's the perfect under the radar, stealthy Rolex.

36mm is a great and classic size. I have a big wrist (7.75") and wore a 36mm DJ do a while and loved it. I think with your wrist size 36mm will look better than 39mm...plus, like you, I like the dial setup better on the 36mm. The steel dial 116000 is a great watch that will always look classic!

So hard to decide! People seem to be split 50/50!

Unfortunately, I love the OP and can't go for the Explorer, at least not quite yet. Something about the OP just makes me feel like I could stare at it all day!

I personally think the 39mm dials look too modern and dare I say not classy.
The silver or blue 36mm are beautiful.
If your heart is set on a bigger watch , try the explorer with full lume.

I'd go 36mm. The dial on the 39mm is larger than the dial on my GMT (or a Sub), which just seems odd to me.

36mm, the classic "big" Rolex size. Hard to believe but a 36 was considered a giant watch not so long ago. Fashion changes and giant dials will soon be a "early 21st century" thing. A 36 on an Oyster wears big. Anything bigger is just BlingLand to me. That being said, I love my 34mm the best. So I'm biased..

I agree, 36mm for me. There's something 'Hollywood' or 'gangsta' to the big watches and funky colors. YMMV
