Fed up with Photobucket!!

Don't know if this already been discussed here, then please direct me to the correct thread...I have about 1000 pictures that I over the years have uploaded to Photobucket. Now they suddenly change the rules and take my pics ransom and are asking 399 bucks per year for me to be able to access them. I can't even see my old pics that I have posted in threads on TRF before. I just get hit with this sign whenever I am trying to watch all posted pics or access and post pics or even download pics back to my computer…

I found a mail from them in the trash folder that I had received close to the change date where they informed about this...but anyway, come on!!

I know that Photobucket is free and I should been aware that this might happen but it just upsets me...!

Anyone else that is affected by this? How have you handled it, did you pay?

Any pointers on what to do?

Yup, Photobucket is holding all their users hostage. I lost 1000's of detailed pics and tutorials over many forums for the past 10 years. This can't happen again so I have my own server now. A image hosting alternative is Picturetrail. I have used them and they are a stand up company with free and paid upgraded services. Photobucket's future is to shake down as much money as they can before they go bankrupt and disappear. This topic was discussed over on the "Open Discussion Forum".

There have been numerous threads on this. All I can tell you is I pay $29.99 for more storage and have for last year or so. All of my photos/links still upload fine w no issues.

Weird, I don't pay anything and can log on to my account and download pics?

Here's one of a former "thirsty" TZ moderator.

Sir Charles, if you're around give us a lifesign.

Not paying and don't care.

As a photographer I never rely on a single source for images or backups

If I have to pay for image hosting, PB is going to be my last option.

Agreed, I'll just move all my pics to the cloud and post from Tapatalk app here from now on.....

Funny thing, I just bought one of those picture books from them for mother's day. Thought that was the point, draw on customers and get them to buy prints of their pics. Guess not. Bye, PB.

I forgot all about my account until this thread. Any computer, any network, PB runs like I'm on the original dial up. I went to try to delete my photos before deleting my account, but they made even that so difficult that I just outright deleted the account.

THanks for the reminder!

Why not pay the $399 bucks? Don't they deserve to be paid for the service that they are providing?

Not when it was free. And $399/yr. is more than it should be. $30/yr would be much more reasonable.

It's called bait and switch. Borderline (or maybe not so borderline) fraudulent that the user can't freely choose upfront whether to pay or not without pics held hostage.

Again, I'm not paying anything and my pics are not held hostage?

Got me. I'm just taking OP at face value, as I think we should.

Of course we should but maybe there's some kind of misunderstanding here?

I just read some fine print on the site. They are not allowing free third party hosting any longer. 2GB are still free but just not third party.

Yes, that I've read as well but it doesn't say your pics are held hostage until you fezz up.

Just to make sure nothing has changed I just downloaded this pic back to my PC.

I noticed it can't be done from the small picture.
You have to click on it to make it larger and then right click the larger pic.

Yes it looks fine , the problem is they single handedly destroyed a lot of content that was on the forums , from tutorials to people's experiences to watches they've purchased, without warning !

I've signed up to imagur now and it's great , but for how long

I have all my pics so pb can keep them lol
