What are you guys hearing about the SS SkyD??
What are you guys hearing from your ADs or boutiques about when these babies are coming? My best contact has told me that Rolex will be playing some games on the SS model and in particular with the blue dial. He said he was told that with the difficulty in the movement that they will be scarce and that they (Rolex) plan on making the blue dial the "hard to get one". What are you guys hearing??? Here we go again......

Difficulty with the movement? Isn't it the same as in their pm models which they have been making for the last five years?
Rumour probably started by the same guys who said there was difficulty making the green glass for the GV...and the two coloured ceramic bezels for the GMT. I am visiting my AD today so will ask... |

Late summer early fall. My guess is they really are having trouble with the movements. Unacceptable for rolex but id rather them fix it then send out watches with bum movements.

Why would they be having trouble with a movement that's been out for a few years now? |

Mass production versus limited. Idk. Or maybe some issue with the early batches. I agree with you. Seems absurd if true. Either way having a watch finally hit end users 6 to 7 months after basel is a bit sad.

I was told the slow release is because of the movement. It takes longer to make/QC.

For what it's worth, I was told by a salesman at the NYC boutique that these will be released in very limited quantities.

Was at the AD this morning. Was told they will be out in September with at least one reference for each AD on launch day. And the blue dial is the one most customers are interested in.
I am going to a Rolex watch event in September...with the new releases there, so will speak with the Rolex representatives in attendance. |

I'm on the waiting list for the blue dial, but after seeing a few pics on here from 2017 watch events, it looks no where near as vibrant as on the Rolex web site so will see all options and decide then.

I doubt it's the movement, more likely just spacing things out as the SD43 and DJ41s were quite early in May/June.

All new ss rolex except the datejust and maybe sd4k seem to follow this path last few years.
And yes I know this is tt but it's seen as ss.

I've nothing concrete. Just told to expect a call when they land.
There's no doubt they will initially sell for huge premiums but I think it's sort of capped as the PM models are already out, on bracelet and with imho better dials. We shall see. |

I also doubt it's the movement. Seems much more likely that it's just Rolex playing games.
I also tend to believe part of the reason they are introducing them in SS and TT is because they had a surplus of AC movements because the PM SkyDs sell so slowly. |

Hi Lee, This NEVER happens, but my Rolex rep just reached out to me today to give me a status update on Steel Sky-Dweller orders. He just let me know that this is going to be a longer than usual wait. He also mentioned this is going to be a harder to get piece than the steel Daytona. I am reading between the lines, but clearly they are taking many more special orders on this than they expected, and their supply will not be able to keep up with demand. Back to the time frame. Per usual they will never give specifics on time frame but where you and I left off, I mentioned from previous years that new releases usual start hitting stores from August to late October. He is stating this will be longer than usual. This is open for interpretation. I have no good way to make any kind of estimate on time frame at this point since we have not seen a watch like this hit the market. I just wanted to get you this info as I received it. What I can tell you is that you are at the front of the list in this store to receive the watch if you decide to hold the order. However, if you decide you do not want to wait, I will understand. I hope you have been well. Best, |

I've been consistently hearing the late August, give or take, timeframe. And to expect the rollout to be slow.
