Saw a couple of AP's - can't get them off my mind

Guys,

I have far too many watches but I am always on the prowl for more. Came across a few lately which have caught my eye but these two I can't stop thinking about.

A super fun watch for a few months in the summer 15710ST.OO.A010CA.01. Why is this stuck on my brain? What do you guys think?

I have only three bracelets in my collection, all the rest are on straps. This has so much presence and pop. Is it too much? I don't think so, it sure feels good on and it really does make a statement, I think the blue is such a game changer. Again opinions? 26331OR.OO.1220OR.01

Also I have owned two Safari, two black/red ROO and the new blue with black is intriguing too. Haven't seen it in person yet.

I never gave AP much thought since there are no AD's in my state. In fact, there are many brands not represented here and I live in a major city next to the State Capital. The Rolex AD used to carry ALS but they didn't sell. Same with IWC, and Breitling. I wonder if Rolex has something to say about what brands they can carry.

As much as i love the divers that RG ROC on a bracelet is amazing. Between the two, i would go ROC.

The diver is boutique onlyband a $19,000 MSRP. Watch is too new and limited to get too much offf.

The ROC Is a different story.

This few days i'm always visiting takuya site, lusting for his price of AP. Almost pulling the trigger, then I stumbled upon threads discussing about the expensive maintenance cost of AP compared to rolex.

This cured my itching as for now.

It is cheaper than Rolex comparatively, factoring in the cost of servicing vs the overall value of the watch. My RO costs 2X as much as my GMT II at retail pricing. Yet, my RO cost way less than 2X as much to service compared to Rolex servicing costs.

I would say AP's prices are fair and Rolex is overpriced IMO when you consider you are paying a much larger chunk of the overall value of your rolex in servicing costs compared to what you spend with AP.

But on a strictly dollar for dollar basis it is more expensive. It all depends on how you look at it.

But i read that service interval is like 3 years for AP compared to Rolex' newer model you can opt for 10 years service interval. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Rolex isn't 10 years. That is what the average time owners wait between servicings, but it isn't an official recommendation from Rolex. It has been misinterpreted as that though. I would have my Rolex's done probably every 5-7 as i am more of a preventative maintenance guy and don't wear them until something breaks. With AP probably 4-5 just to be safe as i would say preventative maintenance is more important with a more expensive watch. I wear my Rolex's way harder so for me the servicing intervals will probably be pretty much the same on average.

My GMT service was a bit above 7% the value of the watch retail pricing not including optional replacement parts, just the service. A 15400 service from AP is 4.8% of the retail value of the watch not including replacement parts.

In the end though, Rolex vs AP comparisons rarely work out very well as other than telling the time they are more different than similar. Each has their place but i try not to compare the two head to head too often as the choice depends more on what kind of watch you want and the two don't really overlap that much.

Dr... BOTH are truly phenomenal choices! That Diver is so cool looking, and though I'm not a gold guy, AP gold and blue is to die for! I would wear that ROC without a seconds thought.
