Have I committed a horological crime?

I put my daydate on a NATO. How do you think it looks?

Bad idea?

My reasoning is. I wanted something different from leather (and it's hot out)

Also my gold bracelet was getting really sweaty and dirty. Also I want to preserve it from future stretch.

I will put the bracelet back on for important events. Other than that I think I'm keeping it on another strap.

I'd hate to shell out $5k for another gold bracelet. That's practically a whole new watch.

would rather see it on leather, or even a perlon strap.

Have to agree with this. Back on the gold as it's a lovely watch.

This

Also a daily cleaning on your band will prevent dirt and grime from becoming a factor

Have to agree with this too!

I understand preserving the bracelet lots of leather options that look great on a DD.

Again, have to agree with this...that looks god awful, period.

You spent so much on the DD, what's so bad about spending a few hundred for a nice, brown croc strap? Gold watch with brown crocs (not the rubber variety that you wear on your feet god forbid) works 100% better than a $5 nylon nato.

You asked.

a watch is meant to be worn

Like NATOs, just not on that watch.

Probably not a crime but definitely a misdemeanour

I'm worried about bracelet stretch though. If I plan to keep this for 10 years or more then I'd at least like to preserve it. If I daily wear the gold it will stretch to shit and be worthless.

I'm not sure of the life span of the bracelet, but what's the point of owning it if you don't use it? Why not use it until it is all gone and can't be used, and then you can put on some alternative, preferably not the one shown here.

Because resale value?

I mean I don't expect to make a killing but there is a clear divide of 5-6,000 with bracelet in tact. And like I said I will put in the bracelet when need be. But for day to day use I'd rather not damage it doing daily things.

My grandmother use to put plastic covers on her furniture to preserve the value as well. In all my years using her furniture all i got was an uncomfortable and slippery sitting experience. It detracted from the present value of what were otherwise nice couches.

IMO preserving the resale value of the watch by putting it on a different strap is the watch equivalent plastic couch covers.

Similar to the folks that would put plastic on their car seats.
Would be constantly stuck to it in hot weather and frozen in the winter and in the end, the car would be a wreck on the outside but the seats would be brand new.

OP,
That's fugly.
Life is too short. Enjoy as meant to be.
One should never buy a watch concerned about resale value. If that's the case, buy a $29 one so the loss is not that bad.

No crime committed, you have, however (in my eyes), made the watch look truly awful. Why on earth would anyone buy a DD and present it to look as bad as it possibly could? That is difficult to do with such a handsome watch. But at least you'all be able t sell it and the next user will benefit from your care.

With regard to your concern about stretch, it's actually the pins that are stretching, not the bracelet links themselves. You can have the pins redone and jewelry work on the bracelet - a jeweler in Boca (Jewels In Time) told me it's about $2,000, but that's a lot less than a new bracelet. And if you have 10 years to save up ... well, I wouldn't worry so much.

Re your strap, if it makes you happy, wear it. Sometimes mixing formal and casual is cool. Although, that's not quite the way I'd do it myself ...

The colour scheme of the strap is not helping you out.

If you are intent on wearing a NATO then try a black or a nice grey one.

If you want to preserve your strap, a nice black leather or croc strap would suit it a lot better.

An ultrasonic and regular cleaning will prevent future stretch.
