Were you deceived by the Date Function mentality?

I know Date vs no Date is an old toasted topic.

But I'm curious if there are many out there like myself who only bought or only had interest in Date watches only to find you really don't use, care, hate to set, and now prefer the cleaner look of a ND?

Up until a few months ago, I didn't even know that the Submariner (my dream watch since I was a little kid) came in a version without the date. I used to think that all Subs had the date and cyclops. However, after seeing the no-date Sub in person, I've come to realize that I MUCH prefer it due to the clean and symmetrical look.

Sure, the date function can be useful. But for me, wearing a luxury watch is first and foremost about pleasure. Since I prefer the aesthetics of the Submariner sans date, and thus receive greater pleasure when looking at it, it's an easy choice for me!

Vastly prefer no date. It makes setting whatever I'm going to wear that day very easy.

No - prefer the date version and refer to it regularly during my normal working day.

Actually find it very useful.

Have to have a date. Had a Black Bay and it always drove me nuts not having the date feature. Its a must have in my book.

I find that I use my watch for the date more than for the time.

Just like time, the date function is very useful in everyday life.

I've always loved the cleaner look of no date watches, however, I rely on the date function so it's a must for me!

In fact there is no Sub ND according the Rolex naming convention. There are
1. Submariner
2. Submariner Date

I've chosen the Submariner version, much more clean and symmetric. Most of my watches (I have about 20+) in my collection do not have a date, just set the time, grab and go, adjusting the date on the rotation watches could be tedious sometimes. Besides I still can remember the date. ;)

Didn't realise how useful the Day function was going to be. Now I use it even more than the Date.

My first Rolex purchase was the 114060. I was convinced that I needed a date so I sold it and bought the LN. After having the LN I realized I really didn't NEED the date after all and went back to the 114060 because of how clean it looked, lol

I'm the opposite, I used to think I could always just remember the date, and preferred the cleaner look without the date (especially with cyclops).

Now a few years later, after wearing a few different watches daily, I find myself using the date more and more and relying on having it. I still don't mind a good ND, but at least my daily wearer for work, I would prefer to have a date.

My first Rolex was the 114060, however my previous watch, the Breitling Navitimer had the date. I didn't use it much at all and so when I was shopping for a Sub my desire to have the cleaner looking dial outweighed the need for a date, easy decision for me.

It depends on the watch. I do not care if a watch has a date or not as I can remember the date. It is about appearance and some watches look better with the date, others, not so much.

Agreed.

I also do not waste my energy on why a certain watch does or does not have a date.

Nope for me I NEED a date. The watch feels naked to me without a date display and honestly its a very basic complication.

All my watches need to be able to do 2 things. Tell time and tell date.

Chaps

I find that remembering todays date is really dead easy, I have been doing it from the age of 10. If you want a date function then fair enough but I never see the need for it.

Regards

Agreed. For me, I like having the date. Day of the week is much less important, but the date is very useful, all the time.

I have to sign and date paperwork (in GMT) throughout my day so having both GMT and a date function makes life much easier, but in reality I can (and do) survive with out them. It just takes a little mental gymnastics to get GMT and what's left of my memory to get the date. That way I can rotate watches and not wear a GMT to work every day.

Nope, never. Use it at least once every day. I'm sure a no date looks a little "cleaner" but a wrist also looks "cleaner" without a watch strapped to it. If I'm going to wear a watch I want (at a minimum) it to show time and date

I wear no date watches sometimes and frequently miss having the date on my wrist.
