Another BLNR Thread

I've known about the BLNR for awhile but it just came on my radar as a possible purchase. I sold my Date model earlier this year and have had the itch for a new Rolex since then. I thought I had it narrowed down to the Explorer or the DJ41 Blue dial. But then I started looking at pics of the BLNR.....

It's kind of the best of both worlds. A great everyday tool watch (I travel a lot) with some blue and some bling. I'm in the construction business so polo shirts and the occasional button-down are my work uniform. I wear a tux once a year and a suit maybe a handful of times. I think the BLNR would work in all those situations.

But I'm confused on pricing. MSRP is $8,950. It's a stainless steel sports watch and it's popular, so I understand little to no discount. But I'm seeing used ones in the $8,300-8,600 range. BNIB seem to be right around MSRP. I even found a used one for $9,686!

I know the standard answer around here is buy from a trusted reseller. But it looks like I might save tax and maybe $1-300. Am I missing something here? Is this a watch you're just as well off buying from an AD?

Do some shopping and buy where you get the best deal. More importantly, though...don't go by pics. Go somewhere and try it on before you buy.

Prices are all over the place simply because this piece is very popular and inventory is not even across the dealer network.

IF you could find one at a dealer you would have to decide at that moment based on their price. Or look on the sales forum here and see what is available.

If you can buy brand new from an AD, at or near used market prices, then why not?

Would prefer owning new with papers in my name over saving $300 and change.

Definitely try it on its a great piece with a good resale value if you buy it right used you can flip it when its time to move on without a big hit!

My AD said 8500. Plus the AD in right across state lines so no taxes.

Thanks for the info so far. I will absolutely be trying it on before making the buying decision. Was at an AD yesterday but they were low on sports models. Had almost decided on the DJ41 Blue and then came home and started reading the forum and BAM.....why haven't I looked at the Batman?!?

I'm in SoCal so between San Diego and LA, one of the AD's is bound to have one to look at and try on.

There's nothing you're missing...blnr has been non stop popular since release for good reason...hence the value retention. Great watch you won't be sorry.

I feel so comfortable with mine! I sold my two tone sub for this so I can wear it all day at work (also deal with construction) and in meetings. For Tux and suiting up I go to my grail. I would pay retail for new.

South coast plaza had blnr yesterday..(Sunday). Had Seadweller sd43 too, but not on display. Fashion island had zero blnr, but had new TT Skydweller. Was shopping for LVc. I will keep a look out while out and about.

....oh and I love my blnr.

In the UK used models are selling for £1,000 over MSRP

If you want to go AD route at MSRP, You have to remember tax on the purchase from your AD will bring up the out of pocket cost to you around $9800. A mint one year old used one at $8300 is significant savings.

Either way, it is a beautiful watch and seeing that blue change from one lighting condition to another is worth the price of admission. Happy hunting.

I paid £5350 two years ago for a 2013 model.
I was offered £6750 two weeks ago.

Definitely. I thought it looked like a watch I could wear every day from pictures (and I do now!), but once you hold it in various light it's not even a competition anymore, it's a brilliant looking watch. Must be tried on to understand.

I bought mine about 2 or 3 months ago, haven't taken it off since, sold (or selling) everything else.

I bought it used here on TRF, saved a few shekels plus sales tax.
