Cuff link scratches

Disclaimer: I have not searched TRF for this but I browse daily and haven't seen anything on it.

Do any of you have issues with cufflinks scratching your Rolex? I haven't felt it hit hard but a lot of scratches happen without feeling it. I've worn cufflinks for years but I might have to abandon them. This isn't the best quality pic but it's surprisingly difficult to get:.

This has been a concern of mine for years. I abandoned cufflinks sometime ago which is a shame but a necessity I feel if you value your watch. Especially if you've got polished centre links.

Never noticed this to be a problem personally, but it might also be somewhat dependant on the style of cufflink and how tightly it's worn.

ouch. a little metal "wrecking ball", causing havoc on your band. Nice catch, wouldn't have thought this would have been such a problem.

You could get enamel cufflinks (I believe Neil on here has some to match his Tudor but not sure what they are made from) or some other non metal material

Interesting. I do not wear suits as much these days, but when I do I wear cuff links. Love cuff links. I think most of mine are finished with smooth polished edges, but will definitely inspect next time I am going to wear them.

I thought I was crazy to think about this :). Since I got the watches I stopped wearing cuff links.

Metal on metal is a bad combo. I've given up on cuff links as I care more about my timepieces

THanks for the feedback. I think it depends a lot on how tight the cuffs are and what type of material the cuff links are. But I'm definitely going to be more careful.

I pop the easylink out and wear my watch lower with cufflinks on. Some cufflinks are much tighter than others so I choose accordingly.

I went one step further for a few years and wouldn't wear long sleeves on my GMT... .even damn cotton shirts will give scratches.
Now a days I don't mind anymore :)

Usually I wear my shirt behind my watch so the cufflinks don't really touch. I only wear when going specially out, and so far no issues.

I don't like French cuffs. Now I have another reason to never change my mind.

I never liked French cuffs with a watch. Nothing slides right. The big problem to me is the starched cuff which over time literally acts as sand paper putting a dull patina over the watch. This is the reason so many older watches from the small era have such dull finishes. Its from was the starched cuffs worn back then. I do not think on a properly fitted cuff the cufflink should ever come in contact with watch unless you bear straight down on a hard surface and the watch is under the cuff. Usually, however, the cuff is pulled back from the watch when sitting with arms extended on a desk.

Yeah but Dan, those accomplishments were not done while wearing PM pieces. I get what you are saying though and if it was a SS piece I would certainly be okay with it.

There might be glory in scratching your watch on an epic mountain climb, but there's none in scratching it needlessly on another piece of wardrobe. I don't climb mountains, and I'm not careless with things I own.

I wear French cuffs shirt with suit. In those instance, I wear dress watches on leather strap. It's stylish, goes well with the suit and I never worried about scratching the bracelets.

I wear t-shirts so the cufflinks are above my elbows. No harm to the watch.

Just wear an Oxford shirt (or a tank top).

That's why I don't wear PM watches. Well, that and I couldn't afford one. But doubt I would buy one even if I could swing the entrance fee.
