Still in love with my RG 44... but...
I love my RG 44, it's probably my favourite watch, but I do wish it had the stunning golden coat of arms rotor. I had a closed ROC before so I've never had one and it's always been one of the nicest imho. I also bought a 5711 and not a 5712 so I don't have the micro-rotor either
I do appreciate the cut outs in the galvanised rotor for better visible access and it is a pretty cool contrast to the case. Guess I'm just trying to stay away from splashing out on a Datograph. |

Sounds like you need to ADD another AP too, lol... Not many top out the Dato from the rear, Neil!

the dato is about the only watch that could pull me away from AP or PP. Finally tried one on this past week which was not a good idea for me, at all.

Sounds like you finally understand my problem. I don't like at all the rotor on the 44 ROOs. I don't know why they didn't just do it like the 42s.
Same with the patek. I love the 5712 caseback the best. But it's the only nautilus I wouldn't buy (too many things in the dial). |

I quite like the dark rotor on my RG44 as it goes with the bezel, although I can't deny it would look nicer in rose (or pink) gold. Its the one thing I don't like about my RO Chrono, the fact that it has a solid case back.

I might add I do think the rotor design works well with the RG44, I wouldn't change that to anything more elaborate, but it would be nice in gold.

I couldn't do that, thing with the Dato is I like the dial of the original but the size and balance of the Up/Down so I can't really see me adding one. I love a tremendous booty as much as the next man, but at the end of the day the face must come first.

Not much can stand against the case back view of a Dato.
Tough to resist.

The new black 1815 chrono is probably my favorite watch on the market right now (that I could ever actually see myself affording, so tourbillons & minute repeaters not included ) |

Dato is nice but hugely overpriced imo. I'd get the chrono 1815 if it was like $30k tops. Would rather get an AP otherwise

Neil if it really bothers you have you considered asking AP to make you a custom rotor?

that looks so good. As much as I like PP, i would not go that direction for a chronograph as they feel too small and thin (5170 comes to mind here). That Dato looks great on your wrist and is a nice bridge between a sportier watch and a more formal PP. You could actually wear it with just about anything and it would look great.

I agree, Ive wanted to try this platinum one for a while but my AD only has it is rg. In platinum it is stunning. I already have 2 other watches on order in a very different price range but I could see this datograph being my next major purchase. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was going to say it doesn't, it was just that I didn't seem able to land the coat of arms rotor which I'd wanted for over ten years since seeing my first 15300, but then after seeing the other thread, my initials on a custom one would be pretty awesome, or better still my own coat of arms. I don't have one yet but have devised quite a few for a book I was working on, but if I get famous I'll check it out.
