Best model to buy while in Germany for resale

Hi, thanks to all who post for the information.

I travel to Germany several times each year and would like to buy a watch as I would receive the VAT on returning to the US.

I own a Datejust from the 80s that I wear occasionally.

Which stainless steel model would hold it's value best?
Have the best resale. I would like to wear it once in awhile but someday sell it.
i.e. Explorer II, GMT II, etc.

So you are importing a watch for resale?

Just make sure you declare it upon re-entry to the US and when you take into account the Euro/dollar conversion, how much will you actually make?

Just buy the watch you want to own and wear.

You should pick up a few stainless steel Daytonas with the ceramic bezel while you are there. You can then sell these privately for greater than RRP in the US.

At the top of this forum, the General section, there is a sticky thread with current global prices, including Germany. The recent strength in the € doesn't make buying in Europe such a great deal anymore. Also, you will most likely not get the entire VAT amount back because the processing companies like Global Blue keep a nice chunk of the refund as their service fee. And lastly, you'll have to pay a couple percent customs duty upon your return to the US if you declare the purchase. Honestly, unless you want to commemorate your trip with the purchase of a special watch, you'll be financially better off buying from one of the "trusted sellers" on this site.

I know of on dealer in Spain who had more than one ceramic Daytona in stock but would only sell with the supporting purchase of a PM piece. I guess in tourist areas this is a valued way of moving stocks that would otherwise sit for long periods of time.
