I'm afraid these dates are totally off ...by years.
According to that chart, my 1966 Sub should be from 1959.

Terrible list. The big mistake seems to be the compiler thought the serials went to seven digits in the mid 50s, whereas Rolex actually re-started the six figures. Seven digits started about 1964.

It's a number etched on the outside of the case between the legs at 6 o'clock

A six digit case number is of course quite possible, but not in 1974...

Late 50s through the 60s if the dial and hands are correct to the watch

1959 Calibre 1030 probably a 6564.

Could possibly bet a 6548 with an 1120

Depends on the case size.

34mm 6564 is most likely reference.

31mm 6548 is most likely reference.

I agree with Tommy. 1959, cal 1030, probably 6564. I don't think it's a 6548, as I don't remember 6548s with OCC markings.

Sorry if I took your time but apart from opening the case is there a way to make sure about this watch. There are no papers or box. It looks to me that it's not a fake but how to proceed?

@Alav
If you've removed the bracelet and determined the SN between the lugs at the 6 o'clock marker is 461287, then the date of manufacture is 1959 (this will be generally accepted as Rolex has never published a definitive list of serial numbers and production dates). Now, look between the lugs at the 12 o'clock marker and you'll be able to determine the Reference number.

I did not remove the bracelet but I can see the number between the lugs at 6 o'clock marker with magnifying glass.
There is no number between the lugs at 12 o'clock.
So , can this suggest that it's a fake?
