*****The OFFICIAL Street Food Thread*****

Having re-awakened to the amazing creations that can be found in street food over the past ten days or so, I want to see what’s on offer in other parts of the world (I’m expecting great things from Mr G here ).

Here’s today’s lunch off the street in Medan, Indonesia. Spicy fish, rice and spinach

Now show us whatcha got!

Torta de Tamal, México City, two nights ago after the U2 concert.

It is a tamale inside a bread. They are also called "guajolotas" locally. It is a nice breakfast for mornings and they pair perfectly with Atole (corn based beverage). Studies say a breakfast like that has an energy content of 1200 calories so it is truly a breakfast of champions.

I'm looking forward to it gathering some momentum too. I'll be in Mexico mid next month so I'm hoping Mr G can show me what I have to look forward too.

G-Shock Mudmaster, my survey watch

Breakfast of champions? At 1,200 calories, more like breakfast of Jabba the Hut!

Google Sirnica (cheese) or Burek (meat stuffed) in toronto. I am sure you'll find plenty of places. Pita is a general term for it.

This was tonight's very late dinner. Wanton noodles with crispy pork belly, fried one more time for artery clogging effect. Claypot rats tails (literal translation; the shape of the noodle resembles a rat's tail), along with some friend pork intestines with garlic.

Wish I could say we did street food, but Mrs. RR won't touch the stuff.

Today's lunch, tilapia with sambal tumis, pandan leaf wrapped chicken, and coconut curried wild fern. Mmm.

Not the most elegant of pictures, but then southeast asian street food is never elegant. What we have today is oil fried ghost (literal translation once again). Think of it as Chinese churros; pretty similar flavour profile, except the dough is larger and seasoned differently; stronger hints of sesame. These are made fresh and sold, with successful stalls having quite the queue. Naturally, with other food. Will have to take a picture next time...

I can’t be bothered cooking tonight so it’s out for what some argue is a national dish of Singapore. Salted egg yolk chicken, mmm mmm!

Same here, with a compromise. I eat almost anything from a street vendor, while gladly going to a nice restaurant with Mrs. RW later on. Usually in some vacation.
