AP ROO scratch Magnet

Hi All,

Are you guys extra cautious with your ROO, the bezel that is most vulnerable .

I’ve been very careful with my 15400st since purchase in Jan but bezel got slightly scratched yesterday and don’t even remember how and when it happened. That’s the nature of wearing any watches.

SS ROO bezels are quite vulnerable even if you're careful. I know because I've owned 3 42mm SS ROOs in the past and I've managed to ding/dent the bezel within a month of ownership even though I was super careful. It's the sheer thickness and size that makes it hard to control at times. Learn to live with them, or go for something that doesn't scratch as easily...

I've worn my 15202 quite frequently on a daily rotation and it's still (knock on wood), completely scratch and ding free. Being extra thin helps with not scratching it so easily.

The solution is to go ceramic/cermet, although it's a pity they're only available on LEs in the 42mm line...

They are very scratch-attractive, but this the life...

I'm extra careful with all APs. If you're really paranoid get one with a ceramic bezel. Even then though, there's the fear of chipping the bezel which would be far far worse than a mere scratch or ding on an SS one.

Just remember, they are only watches.

Gotta be careful with the Gentas, they are so finely finished that it's a damn shame to mark the bezels. Wear selectively and in rotation is best for longevity.

I wear my 15202OR all the time and it is perfect. Am I careful with it? Sure I am careful with every watch. Do I baby it? No I wear it like I do any watch including Rolex. I have never dinged up any of my watches. Also here is a shot of my 15305st. Also perfect bezel no scratches. So if you are careless or accident prone perhaps G Shock a better option.

And I know they aren't ROO's but they are still brushed metal bezels. Again I wear these pretty much every day and no differently than I do any Rolex.

I am very careful with my 15400OR. I take it off and put it in my drawer on bounty paper when I get to work. That's why I love my Batman for everyday.

The bezel is a scratch magnet. Need to be aware of your surroundings.

"We're talking about scratches. Not a watch; not a watch that I go out there and die for and wear every day like it's my last, not the watch, we're talking about scratches, man. I mean, how silly is that? We're talking about scratches. I know I'm supposed to be there, I know I'm supposed to lead by example, I know that. And I'm not shoving it aside like it don't mean anything. I know it's important. I do. I honestly do. But we're talking about scratches, man. What are we talking about? Scratches? We're talking about scratches, man!"

$10 or $15,000 watch small scratches are totally acceptable to me and rather unrealistic to expect none, just not gashes or big dents.

I’d rather wear my watches and enjoy them than getting hung up on a couple of scratches. I’m not silly with them, but life (and especially airplane seatbelts!!) happens .

Even with a few wear marks, the AP steel bezels are still gorgeous

this

Im really glad my wife is so hard on her yacht master. When i look at it on her wrist it looks like a new watch. Its only when i closely inspect it that i see its all beat up. We all know where the scratches on our watches are because we inspect them in detail. To everyone else though they are not even noticeable. That always gives me some perspective.

What he says
I also wear my pieces for travels and everythings, sometimes life sneaks up on the watches.

It's a matter of opinion. If you don't mind your posessions getting scratched/dinged/knocked up power to you, but I see no point in getting a gorgeous piece and letting it get scratched/dinged/knocked up when with a bit of extra precautions (and it's only a bit, I certainly don't wrap them in ace bandages or anything ) and wearing beaters where the situation calls for it, you can keep them looking as new.

No right or wrong here insofar as whomever the owner happens to be; people who want them looking as new or close to it are free to take precautions, and people who don't care are free to bang 'em around. Clearly the OP falls into the former camp.

Great pics Ken, I am also very careful but my Amstaff when he was small did manage to put a few hairlines on my 5712 and on my 5167R, I could have just worn my ce diver the time he was small, they like to play, yours is more of a calmer nature, at least I think, but couldn't get myself not to wear the PP's for 8-10 months maybe will ask at service time for a light brushing of the bezel, since it's only hairlines it won't take much material off

And for the OP maybe time to think of a ROO with ceramic bezel?

Yes our Frenchies are pretty chill Arnaud. I am careful always but not ever worried as after wearing nice watches for years I always know they are there!
