Daytona 16520
Hey ladies and gents, it's my first time here to write, but I have been a follower for a long time..
guys, I own a Daytona SS, and some people are offering to buy it.. I need some info from pros (just like your selves here) to tell me if the offer price is a good price, or I could get a better one. details of the watch below: Rolex Daytona SS Zenith Movement model: 16520 serial: U927176 condition: 85% bought from Kuwait dealer in 2000 with warranty and box. Price offered: $11,200 I heard I can get $13,000 for it outside Kuwait.. What do you guys think? what is the fair price for it in your town? Mind you, I don't need to sell it, I am only contemplating if it is a good price or not for me to make a decision.. Thanks so much for your time... :) |

my opinion. There really is no good price unless your hurting for cash. You will regret selling it.

Now is probably the worst time to sell a Daytona IMHO, prices are dipping. Hang on to it for a while.

U serial great conditions were selling for a lot more a while back. I traded my U straight for a new Z serial. For me, Zenith or no zenith didn't mean much... I don't care too much about collectables. I wanted more power reserves, fat hands, better clasp.
Right now is a horrible time to sell though. I say enjoy it for another couple years. |

From what I've seen, they aren't selling at 11K, so if your hurting for cash then I'd take the 11,200. However, IMO you will regret it later if you sell it now. They were selling for 14 - 18K earlier in the year. It's your choice, but as others have said it might be better to wait, or not sell it at all.

I think you can get them at that price in many places. I saw them for that price and lower in NY City a few weeks ago - I guess depends on the condition. Looks like you have box and papers which makes it worth more IMO.
Most of us on this forum would not sell it unless of course we needed to. Only you can know that. I hope you hang on to it. Best,

In Japan the cheapest Zenith SS Black Dial used Daytona that I have seen with box and papers is over $16,000. Up to over $21,000 depending on the condition and serial number. I agree. Don't sell it. It will only go up in value. You are lucky to have it. I will post some pictures of mine tonight. |

I just got a T Serial number which is unfortunately in the "not rare" category, however its in great condition, does not need a service for awhile and has the original box, papers, tags and even the bezel cover. Bought new from an AD in 1997. Absolutely love it, will try to never sell it! The skinny hands are hard to read compared to the fat hands Daytonas. Completes my Daytona grail search however as I now have a Z White Dial and this T Black Dial SS Daytona. |

wow, you guys are really passionate about your Rolex.. :)
to say the truth, I bought it back in 2000 because I have always wanted to own a daytona SS, but had and maybe still have no clue of the not so obvious differences between the old ones and the new ones.. I have some one wanting to trade me, and so far I am liking the deal, but hesitant because I am not sure what I am letting go of.. the deal is, this guy is dying for the 16520 and he wants to give me 3000 kuwaiti dinars which is the equivalent to $11,200.. and in return, he will give me a brand new never been worn Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Safari Chronograph for only $4,000 extra.. and to say the truth, I am quite tempted cos its retail price is over $20,000, and I will get it for $15,200. he just wants to get mine in anyway possible. this is why I am contemplating selling it.. |

As I understand it, the Zenith movement isn't as good as the Rolex in house. The in house has a better power reserve & is more accurate & robust. But for some reason the Zenith's are sought after.
I have an AP ROO, so I would say take the deal. There are loads of Daytona's around, but good deals on ROO's are quite rare. You can always get another Daytona.

Tony, that's exactly what I was thinking.. on the other hand, some people told me if I can go to Europe on a trip, and take it with me, I might end up selling it much higher..
btw, loved yours.. did you get it preowned? or new? where would I find a legit place that would have preowned AP watches on the net? |

You do what you want and get or keep the watch you want. It's not about Rolex, it's about what smiles at you. If the AP appeals to you then do it. Good luck on your decision and welcome to TRF. Let us know the outcome.

Hi I bought mine pre owned. I've lost too much money buying brand new! I only know of two dealers in London, so can't recommend anywhere on the net. If you stay with the Daytona, you still have a superb timepiece. One of the AP forums I visit has alot of respect for the Daytona. To quote: "...never underestimate the power of the Daytona..." And that was from someone who knows the watch industry very, very well. I'd love to get a SS Daytona in the future. Too many watches & not enough money...!!

15,200 is a good price for a ROO safari but not a GREAT price. You will always be able to trade your U serial daytona + 4000$ +/- for a ROO safari later on (or now from a grey dealer in the states). If you want it now, the deal is decent.
That said, the hornback safari strap is not very comfortable so beware. |
