Rolex AD prices on Datejust 41 Singapore - negotiable?

Howdy all,

My journey continues to get an AD (NIB) DateJust 41 126334 (w/Jubilee). I have talked to AD in Australia and (with crossed arms) - "We do not discount Sir" ok I get it...

Travelling to Singapore in November and, although the list Singapore price is more expensive taking in account Exchange rate (excl taxes), I would like to get your expert advice on how negotiable prices are in Singapore.

Hoping I can haggle hard and pick one up from an AD with all the goodness that brings. I need to work the numbers with forex $ etc obviously before making a final decision.

It will be my one and only Rolex so don't really care about a special relationship with my local (no discount) AD.

Couple of other questions if I may:
Does cash work as a lever or not matter.
Do they try to add a surcharge for AMEX purchases?

Thanks all :-)

S.

hi, i’m sure it works. However you need to bring that wad of cash with you and be insistent. Although i experienced it with a Tudor AD.

You may push for 20% discount (if its not blue dial).

If not then 15% would work + around 5% tax refund at the airport.

They don't prefer AMEX, you should try visa/mastercard or cash.

Yes, for a Datejust you can get a discount, likely even with credit card purchase. Probably more (discount) if cash purchase.

I had a bit of a session at the Changi AD last night and tried on this lovely DJ (among numerous others)

I didn’t ask about discounts, but my sense is that they will be limited at the airport at least

Certainly is a lovely watch regardless of price

The watches are easily available and are already being discounted by grey retailers.

Welcome to the sunny island, all the best for your watch hunt.

Great thanks.

Does this apply to ADs?

This sort of discount will make it worthwhile even with the nasty CreditCard exchange rate hit I will take. Not that keen on the cash route - makes it all tricky with money laundering laws etc.

It will be cheapest for you to get 10% off locally and then claim back GST on the way out

Plus also start a relationship with your AD

You may try The Arcade @ Raffles Place for currency exchange. You will get better rate than anywhere else and it will help you to save more.

ADs in Australia give discount on Datejust normally... even on some sports model...

True but only if I cannot get better than around 5% discount in Singapore. Also have the drama of claiming the Tax and being flagged in the system.... which may be a drama if I forget to declare when I come back into Oz which you legally have to do and pay the GST on the goods.

For WG jubilee silver dial best price at airport last July was around Usd 8,300. In Sept in Takashimaya i could get it for 7,900 after de tax. That s when my wife said it is too small for me unless i loose weight. Been on diet since. I shall make a new attempt in December. Let see how it goes :-)

let us know how it works out my plan is the same as yours, go with a fat stack and see how it goes lol. I'm defiantly going to try to get more than 20% on a TT gold dial paid in cash. I might embarrass myself by asking but its worth a shot. If not I might go with a Sub and get the DJ 41 when the price drops in 5 years.

Take a look around people's park (China Town) you might get something you want and maybe cheaper. 3 Ad's and some gery dealers around there. Good luck!

I recently bought my first Rolex in Melbourne. It took a fair bit of haggling over 3 visits but I managed to get 10% off a pm watch. I think they got sick of me so gave me the discount to get rid of me! This is after I was told twice that there was no chance whatsoever of a discount. That made me more determined!

Bust so far

Spent a few hours trying out almost all of the AD's around Orchard road and no stock - must be pretty popular. A couple were closed (one for renovations).

The way the exchange rate is (now close to parity when you actually change) it was going to take a decent discount to make it work so now resigned to trying Hong Kong or Japan when the the Accountant fancies a mini-break.
