Daytona back from RSC!

I just got my beloved SS Daytona 116520 back from RSC. It took about 4 weeks and cost $1,000 to Rolex and $122 to my AD for shipping/ insurance. My AD in ATL (Brown & Co.) sent it to the RSC in Pennsylvania, where they say they consistently get the best service and turn-around time.

It had the usual scratches and wear and tear, and the Chrono feature had stopped working reliably. It required no new parts other than the ones they ALWAYS replace: mainspring and gaskets. Looks absolutely brand new, I couldn't be happier!

It came back with all the following:
-Green Rolex velvet snap pouch
-2 year Rolex warrantee card and letter
-Letter of replacement value from Rolex, which states it would be replaced with the Ceramic bezel version, good for insurance
-White Rolex microfiber cleaning cloth
-Booklet on worldwide Rolex service
-Form to include for next service

Really first class!

I'll have to keep Brown & Co in mind if/when I need service

Nice! I had a chrono issue with mine and brought it into Beverly Hills RSC when I was in town. They ship all their Daytonas to PA and I got it back 16 days after dropping it off. Chrono is working great and watch is gaining about 1/3 of a second per day, which is awesome!

Glad it worked out so well for you!

How much was it to service Daytona? It's a bit more than your usual Sub correct?

It was $1,000 to Rolex plus $122 for the AD shipping/ insurance. I’ll update my original post with that info- thanks for reminding me!

Sub should be around $7 and change, chronograph more expensive bc there is more to the movement.

Please forgive me because I don't mean to cause any disappointment on your part or start some debate. I am a bit curious about the shape of your case. As I look at my daytona sitting on my wrist compared to your picture, it seems like your lugs are very rounded off. Perhaps it's just the picture angle? I know there have been threads about refinishing cases reduces the bevels of the case but this may be the first time I notice it. Assuming what I think I see is actually the way the watch is in person.

Would you mind commenting on what the case looks like in person and whether you noticed a different in the case and lugs being rounded off after the service?

Thank you!

The lugs are sharp. I just tried to take another photo, but it's so shiny that the reflections are making it a challenge. If you post a pic of yours I can make a comparison.

How do they restore the bezel? Do they polish out scratches? Or just leave them? Always wondered this and how its done come service time...

I see what you mean. I'm trying to take a picture and I'm contorting my wrist to different angles to get a good/clear picture and it's not easy.

They remove the bezel from the case. Then the scratches in the bezel are polished out, and they restore the black of the numbers if necessary.

Ha! Yeah, it's hard to photograph due to the reflections- even a little tough to see in person, too. That said, I do believe that the Daytona has a slightly less severe lug end- not rounded, but not as razor sharp as might be on a sub/ gmt. Perhaps that is because the Daytona lugs ARE polished, and not brushed? Look at a BNIB Daytona and they'll look more gently sharp than razor sharp. Does that make any sense? But mine are as new. Thanks for sharing, love your ceramic!

Awesome, thanks! That put's my mind at ease, as my Daytona is the daily beater at work and I have noticed some light scratches appearing over the years! Still in great condition though. Always wondered how they can polish them out and still keep the black writing intact.

Ahhhh, I’m wondering when to service mine. It’s a V series bought new in 2009. Guess I can wait a while!

Could be the pics and I’m not trying to rain on anybody’s parade but that polish job looks like there’s not a sharp edge left on the watch it’s all round?

It's the pics, as discussed. The shininess/ reflections really make it hard to get a photo of the tip of the lugs.
