Just wanted your thoughts on wearing a yellow gold Rolex Day-Date to a job interview?

How about just getting the job first then wearing the Rolex afterwards?

Yeah, always a possibility. I was just wondering your guys and gals thoughts on wearing one. Does it impress or detract?

Impossible to answer really. Depends on the corporate culture of the office. I will say most people won’t even know what kind of watch it is unless a lot of people there have one just like it.

Oh no, not again

There will two pages of posts and in the end no consensus.

Depends on your age, the job, industry, etc.

If you dont wear a watch you will be fine. If you wear a rolex yoh may be judged in some detrimental way. No watch equals no risk.

It's more of a trade, not a charity

Depends on the position and sector.

The details are very important, and I could be completely wrong. on average, I would not rock a day date while trying to ask another man for money on an employment basis. Venture capital, maybe, or executive level depending on the firm.

I guess my standard advice would be to wear a nice piece that is not overly blingy/expensive. Do you have a nice Rolex ss piece? Either way good luck!

My own personal experience on both sides of the table says it doesn’t matter. When I interview I’m not staring at the persons wrist and when I have been interviewed, my watch is usually tucked under my shirt and barely visible. Now, that said, I would never wear an obviously expensive gold watch to an interview. You’ll never REALLY know why you didn’t get that job, but why worry that your bling created that tiny negative vibe. So...no.

If it weighs on your mind one tiny bit, don't do it. Its an interview man, you need to be focused and confident.

Lots of great suggestions in this thread but I especially agree with the post quoted above. It likely would be under your shirt cuff, unnoticed. To some it won't matter but at that stage of things for such a watch (and the metal it's made of) I would likely stick to a steel model, or make sure it stays under the cuff so you're not thinking it had anything to do with you not getting the job IF that was to be the outcome, God forbid.

I'm sure you'll do fine and make the choice in the end that's best for you. Best of luck to you as well!

If you wear a suit with long sleeve shirt, who will see the watch? Especially if you wear it above the wrist bone as it should be worn. It is concealed under the cuff.

Unless you are going to be selling Ferraris, Lambos, yachts or G5s I would wear something a little more consevative.

It doesn't matter what you think, but as an interviewer, I get the impression you're acting all Cocky......

Because in my experience, Americans tend to be sensitive to displays of wealth like a gold Rolex. With possible exceptions being Miami and LA

In an interview, you can be dinged on a whim. Nobody ever questions "not a good fit" or "arrogant" thus discrimination and pettiness are rampant

This.

Confidence or lack thereof shouldn’t come from the watch on your wrist. Be confident in yourself and it doesn’t matter what watch you have on. But again if it’s something the will distract you don’t wear it.

Just out of potential judgement i would not. Like it or not there are many people that still judge a book by its cover and wearing a full gold Day date for a interview migth not be the smartest thing to do.

Hey its only probably 30mins - 60mins of your life. I'm sure you can go without a watch or wear a toned down SS version.
