41mm Day Date II....good idea gone bad??!!
I consider the Rolex President DayDate the pinnacle of Rolex, and carries with it decades of tradition, and a rich history. Many of us aspire to one day owe the most valuable watch in the Rolex collection. We oftentimes look up to business and community leaders that own these watches.
I was a strong supporter of upsizing the SPORT models, and I like where Rolex is going with the likes of the Milgauss, GMT, and Deep Sea Dweller. What WHAT was Rolex thinking with the new upsided Day Date????? I have seen them now, in several different varieties, and they all look equally aweful. The fluted bezel is far to large and flat, and the crystal sits nearly flush wth the bezel. Obviously, everything had to get bigger with the new bigger watch, but I feel like they got the proportions all wrong, and made the watch TOOOO big. I think a mild bump to 39mm would have sufficed. Does anyone else find the new upsized President a little odd??? |

Sorry, Sharif.....I cannot agree with you. I've seen these babies personally, held them in my hands, tried them on my wrist and fell in love with them. The only drawback about these babies would have to be the price. If I could afford even one of them, I'd buy it in a heartbeat!!

When I saw the pictures many months ago, they looked much better in print, vs. in real life. Even Sandy thought they liked a little outsized, and prefered the older style.
Of course, I wouldnt kick one out of my watch winder if it showed up overnight....LOL. |

Although they are 41 mm, you must bear in mind that they have fixed bezels, so the overall appearance is about the same as your normal 40 mm sports watch which have the larger rotating bezels. JJ

I tend to agree with you. Rolex shouldn't mess with perfection. I guess I'd say the DD is my grail watch. I just might have to go with a gold datejust when I win the lotto. I guess I can pay someone to tell me the day of the week.

I have to agree with JJ ... I tried on a RG DD2 and fell in love - up until I was told the price. Ouch. Very nice though. |

While at home in Ohio, I dropped by a nearby AD. Spent some time chatting with the owner, who has been selling Rolexes for 15+ yrs. He didn't have the new DD II. He did tell me that platinum Rolexes have the light blue dial. We were talking about DD's. No idea if that's reality. Anybody know if that's so?

Why do you find that surprising, Chris? The special ice-blue dial is only associated with the DD model in Platinum.

They're not my cup-of-tea either, i have the 36mm day date and i love it. The new one is just a little too pimped out, i guess you either love or hate it, for me its the latter

I think it's kind of a misstep however only the smooth bezel versions as they highlight the lack of balance between the case and the dial size IMHO.
However, those fluted bezel models allow for some sort of optical illusion/perception that doesn't make it seem so bad. Flutey for me...they are stunning!!!!!!! J |

I haven't seen on in real life yet so I'll hold off on giving my opinion until I see it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts though. Certain models are not for all to love.

Time will tell, but I think Rolex waited too long for an increase and went too big when they did. I've seen one and didn't like it at all. IMHO they screwed up a perfect balance in size and shape no matter the trend toward bigger watches.

I've tried it on and didn't like it at all, it just felt wrong:(
I wish they made it in a size 40 similar to the milgauss case. |

Despite my reservations, I would like to see them side by side, in person. Some pics have the bezel looking just right, some make it look too large. I just can't tell from the pics. As it stands, I tend to favor the DD in traditional 36mm.
>>> Not that I wouldn't love to have one, 36 or 41mm <<<

I used to hate the DD and now I love the DD2. So you see, everyone is happy. You, the old school Rolex supporter (AFAIK, they still produce those models you love) and me, the newcomer.
So what is the problem really? They make it a '2' so they don't have to discontinue the ones you clearly love. |

I wish my local AD would get his allotment of DD2s so I could see them and try them on.
Right now via the pictures I d never buy one based on their looks. I still like my YG DD with the white face roman numerals. BUT, things could change if Jason would get in his shipment. D |

The actual watch looks a bit off, not as much as DSSD but the dial looked small for watch that size.
But I do like the weight of the watch. I would not swim with the platinum one on especially I'm not that a good swimmer, it's so heavy and may be hard for me to stay afloat

41mm is waaaay to big. I think they should have bumped it up to 38,39mm MAX. I saw it in person too, and it's huge. Not my cup of tea.
