To buy or not to buy.. rolex 16710 pepsi with 3186 movement
I am new here and new to the watch world. I have been offered a rolex 167100 pepsi with 3186 movement (serial number m3). The seller said he had some polishing done to the watch, which make me question whether i should buy the watch or not.
Or should i wait for an unpolished with a z9 serial. Greatly appreciate all the comments Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Personally I wouldn’t sweat the polishing. The watch looks spectacular as is. Some folks value patina very highly, but I like new looking. I’ll develop my own patina and then it will mean something to me.
The 3186 movement is highly coveted. For collector value it’s a great feature. Depending on price, I’d buy it. Now, if this is going to be your daily wear and you plan to keep it for many years (like me with my Pepsi), the Z-model with 3185 movement might save you some money and will function just like the 3186 movement.

Bright lights in the photos make it hard to properly eval.
Have you seen it in the metal? And forget the serials. Do you actually like the bloody watch and want to wear it? |

Depends on price, m serials w/ 3186 have skyrocketed in the last 12 months. The polish looks good to me. M serials should have some bevels which that does and the crown guards look correct.

Both should have the 3186 and I would choose unpolished every time. Can you reveal the prices?

I would take it. He debate over polishing is overrated in my opinion. That is a beautiful watch, and it will not be any easier getting good examples going forward

Depends on the price. Have you done the simple crown test to verify it is actually a 3186 movement?

Can't answer the question without knowing the price. To me, the late 3185s are the better value.

Is the Z9 a 3186?
We are not getting anywhere on this thread.

The op hasn't been back with a price since the original post? In any event if the Z9 is a 3185 it's probably more rare than an M3 3186.

Better value than the 3186/16710's, in general. Based on the prices they have been trading for.....I personally don't think the premium is worth it. I'm assuming both of the examples the OP is looking at have 3186, but I don't see how anyone can advise him to buy a watch without knowing the price....it's kind of an important variable.

Been quite a while since I’ve been here.
I have the very late GMT-ll M serials with 3186 movement. Coke bezel. Wow! They have really gone up in price! I’ve been wearing everyday and doing everything from flying to mowing with it on. Think I need to stop wearing it so much.

Sorry to revive this old thread, I wonder does 16710 Z7x serial carries the 3186 movement?

go for it! don’t sweat on the polishing, it is like buying a second hand car where the dents and scratches have already been fixed before selling it to you.

Rolex did not release their watches sequentially so there is a mix.
