Am I Crazy? 16570 Content Inside...

Hi Everyone,

I bought this Exp II 16570 a while back and I have a small decision to make. As I look at more and more watches here, I realized that my bezel seems to have been polished. It's not the worst, and you should be able to see in the pictures that the bezel isn't in a perfect round shape in some lighting/angle vs. the unpolished 16570's bezel which is a lot sharper.

I called RSC here in Asia and was quoted $230 for a new bezel and installation. I realized that this may be a small issue, but I am quite OCD so I am leaning towards replacing it. Thoughts on what you guys would do? Obviously it's not easy to tell unless you look at watches all day like us here.....

Let me know and thanks!

If it bothers you replace it. I was OCD about my first Rolex at first (also a 16570) and here I am years later and many miles put on it, and it's finally looking like a cool old watch that has traveled the world. Put ten years on it and you won't even know, notice, or care. New bezel will result in further reinforced OCD.

Beautiful watch and excellent choice.

Thank you for the kind comments! I actually don't care about scratches, dings, etc. from wearing my watches. It's the imperfect polishing on the bezel that bugs me.

Yes, change it because is not a scratch is a different not original look.

I understand- and much easier to see on a PC. For $230, I would replace it.

I'd replace it. $230 isn't that much money - and you can clearly see it's been overpolished.

Thanks for all the inputs! I don’t understand why someone would just polish the bezel as the case is sharp and unpolished to me.

I know how you feel. I bought a used LV. There was a scratch on the bezel that I did not put on there and it made me a little bummed. When I had the watch serviced I had the bezel replaced.

Well worth it. $ 180 if I remember correctly.

I wonder how much it would be for Rolex to refinish the whole watch, rather than replace the bezel, although the price for replacement is quite reasonable.

I would trade it in for a NOS, or similar. I would never have a watch that bugged me.

I mean start calling trusted sellers before you finish reading my post.

Seriously, get that Franken-Polish Gone!

Easy and cheap (relatively speaking) fix to make. While the bezel is a scratch magnet, you might as well have those scratches be just yours.

But, I'd be tempted to get the whole watch repolished while I'm at it. That lug looks to be in rough shape.

Looks like the whole watch has been given a ‘light’ buff but the bezel has defi been ‘softened’ in appearance in the process.
It’s a nice watch, and for $230 I wouldn’t think twice about replacing the bezel altogether.
It’ll lift the whole appearance of the watch and you can then start enjoying it more.

Ah I didn’t think it had been polished except for the bezel as it looks better than my unpolished sub. Does The polish job look okay minus the bezel? Thanks!!

Can always replace bezel some day in the future.

I would leave it be and enjoy it.

Or find a wholly unpolished example, with lugholes :)

Maybe I should have said it looks like the whole watch MAY have been given a light buff. In pic one and two the dark areas on the Solid End Link where it meets the case at the six O Clock position to my eye look like polishing residue.
Either way whether it’s been buffed or not, the watch case looks fine, but as you’ve seen, the bezel isn’t crisp in its appearance anymore. It’s not inconceivable that the bezel was swapped out already if the previous one had suffered a deep scratch or got knarled somehow. I’d have a new bezel installed.

I have similar issue with my Polar 5 digit Explorer II. The bezel is deeply polished, the case is in a good shape. I already ordered a replacement bezel

Mine must be well worn/polished then as some of the black paint is missing from the numbers! Wonder if that can get 'touched up' rather than stick a new bezel on an old watch?

Yes it can! My numbers had faded paint as you mentioned and I had one of the more reputable Rolex shops in San Francisco paint it for me. You can see the results here. I think he charged me $100. This was all done before I was able to see the different curves due to polishing, so I would actually recommend you get a new bezel and not waste that money like I did. Good luck!!
