I want a Quartz!
I need some help as my horizons are not so broad on quartz. I would like something fairly well built and not so cheap as to annoy me.
I am looking for the sporty, rugged type. I only own watches I will wear so I have to actually like it, and this one will be my swimming/cutting down trees/building stuff watch. As such probably a diver of sorts. My dailies are a Longines BigEye and Nomos Metro. So I like the vintage vibe. The obvious choices of Brietling and GS are there, but I prefer something sub $1000. My current eye is on this: |

Look into Hamilton. For the price, they make quality watches and come with a storied brand history. Also, they’re style is typically vintage inspired from watches they used to make in the 60s and 70s.
H68201993 - that ref is a vintage looking military watch with a quartz movement for under $350.

Check out the Victorinox INOX watches. They're cool, and tough as hell.

I want a Quartz!
Scratch the itch cheap. It seems for me it is an internment desire. Victorinox is a good choice.
Maybe Dan Henry?? Vintage inspired pieces. $200-$250 scratches the itch. This is the 1963. Sandwich dial. Miyota quartz. Comes with 2 straps and a watch roll. The straps are so-so But is an easy enough fix. This model also comes with a black bezel as an option. They have several models. The 1970 is cool but does use a Seiko auto. Another vote for Dan Henry here. My 1968 ($200) has amazing case quality, and all the DH watches are cheap enough to be good for testing the water, and they seem to re-sell on eBay for close to retail.

I bought 2 quartz watches last year as a change from mechanical:
So far very happy with both. Keep ridiculously good time (obviously). Both bought used, with the GS being just over $1k, and the Astron well under $1k. I guess it depends why you're looking at a quartz. If you are looking for something that keeps great time and very low maintenance, I would consider going solar/atomic/GPS. If I lived somewhere I could get an atomic signal, I might've gone with a Casio Oceanus S100, but instead I went with an Astron. If you want a quartz movement which you can appreciate as much as a mechanical, I would say hard to beat the Seiko 9F. I really appreciate the workmanship and quality of the 9F, but my GS, due to the weight and size, feels more like a dress watch. The Bulova high freq movements have always intrigued me as well. If you want something just tough as nails... INOX or G-Shock. |

I would really like a seiko automatic diver as I have never owned one, but having a date is bad enough for a watch that will not stay wound. A day is just annoying. (yes I know not a real problem, but I still don't want to set the time, day and date every time I pick it up to wear it.). Plus I don't like most day/dates to begin with. |

So the Bulova Accutron ii Snorkel in the original post popped up on Amazon for $208 so I snagged it (normally listed at $375).
A sweeping seconds quartz inspired by the mid century should go well with my current New Vintage collection. |

Another vote for the G-shock. I just got a tough solar one for Christmas and it's great.
Also want to say a cat, I appreciate what Megan goes through as a fox. Hope she returns soon! |

Quartz? Diver?
Look no further than Seiko Tuna (300m if you want them under $1k). They are bad a$$es, and the lume is out of this world SBBN031 as shown)

For vintage I enjoy my pre Bond Omega Seamaster 200 quartz.
Modern I prefer the Seiko solar or Citizen eco. I wear my eco titanium golf (golfing of course) and the Seiko Padi diver when working around the yard or home. Really like the no battery change of the solar powered. Pick them up, put it on and go. |

Realize it's an old thread... but as someone who started with GS quartz, I am really liking my Casio Oceanus. I am also interested in an FP Journe quartz
