Sea Dweller randomly stopped running... then was fine...?
Something odd happened tonight.
I was getting dressed for the evening and I when I looked at my watch at around 6:18 it was still at 6, almost like my minute hand stopped but the second hand was still running. When I looked at the watch it was at 6 and it clearly wasn’t stuck, it advanced to 6:01 as I watched it. I’ve been wearing it all day so I don’t see how it wouldn’t have been wound, but that’s the only answer, right? That the reserve ran out? It’s a 1999 sea dweller that I got back last week from a service when it was corrected from running almost +15s a day down to +3 a day. It’s been running good and keeping great time since. Anyone have any thoughts? Should I just not worry about it? |

Might have been the reserve or another anomaly.
If it happens again take it back. |

Could just be the power reserve. When was the last time you gave it a full wind? Even if you’re wearing it, if you are not that active your movement may not be winding it as much as you think while it’s on the wrist.

Haven’t manually wound it in days, I wear it every day and had been wearing it all day today so I usually don’t need to wind it.

So it would seem you are active enough to maintain a reasonable power reserve?
My suggestion. If the problem happens repeatably then send it back in for service warranty. Just keep in mind that an intermittent fault is difficult to diagnose if it can't be replicated. This could be problematic. |

Who did service ? An independent or a RSC ??
I had an omega smp that came back from a service a few years ago & then it started stopping while I was wearing it. Sent it back/ they said no issues / returned. Then happened again. Good thing about the omega service warranty meant that I took to my local omega boutique & they sorted under the omega service warranty |

Might be an idea to properly test the reserve... wind it fully via crown then let it sit stationary till it stops, take note of how long it lasts.

Agree with this OP. Perhaps your PR was running out? All my watches slow considerably when near stopping.

Happened again.
Just noticed it was over 5 hours off, took it off my wrist and shook it and it ran for a few seconds. I gave it a nice full wind. Doesn’t make sense to me, I wear it everyday, including all day today. |

If you were related to "the Mr Smith", Then I would just think they changed something in the matrix... But you said 5 hours, so it's off to RSC...

That happened with my wife's Tudor Lady Sub; finally it stopped all together. Shipped it to Rolex and they charged an arm and a leg to get it repaired including a requisite dial, crystal and hands change. It came back and two weeks later did the same thing. I returned it to them and they said it was dropped and they'd repair it this time but not again. My take is they didn't repair it correctly the first time. I'm none to thrilled with their workmanship on the repair side of the house.

I'll give this a try, but I kind of wanted to just drop it off at the place I bought it from and see what they can do. It has a one year warranty from them.

I'm beginning to also wonder if I really don't get enough wrist movement in, I am at a desk most of the day and only walk around a little bit.

Might be the problem then. Give the thing 50 or so full winds manually (can't overwind it) and set it someplace to see how long it runs.....

If you are in an office and doing keyboard work all day, or a book reader and read much of the day, your watch will stop on your wrist. Wind it up (that's 40 turns of the crown) once a week and you should be fine.

I'll test out the reserve and if it keeps itself running then I'll just deal with it. |

The DJ I bought for my dad did this occasionally.
In his old age he wasn’t very active and the watch would need winding. |

Latest update, full wind 2 days ago it just stopped a few hours ago.
Idk if it’s not self winding well or what’s going on. If I swirl it a bit it only runs for a few seconds. I’ll be dropping it off tomorrow at the place I bought it from, they have given me a one year warranty on it so I’ll let them deal with it. |
