This specific Rolex Submariner Ref.168000 is both very rare and transitional that combines the best elements of both the vintage and modern Rolex Submariner into one complete package. The Rolex Submariner Ref 168000 was only produced in for about 7-9 months between 1987-1988 making it a very rare reference.

This specific model is considered to be a very rare variant of the Rolex Ref.16800 model due to a very short period of production and simple but substantial improvements. Hence the extra "0" Rolex added to differentiate this short-lived reference. The main difference would be the improvement in the quality of the stainless steel, which was upgraded from grade 316L to grade 904L. After only about 9 months of production 168000 was replaced with 16610 which was much the same watch but with the new 3135 movements.

CASE & BRACELET

The case of this 1988 Ref.168000 remains in sharp and unpolished condition showing factory finishing and case chamfers. The Rolex 93150 oyster bracelet retains all of its original links and shows very minimal stretch and included are the 593 oyster end links. The bezel insert retains its tritium pearl and is in great original condition. The case also retains the original green Rolex case back sticker.

DIAL & HANDS

The stunning and rare transitional gloss dial is free from any blemishes or marks and remains in flawless condition. The dial has taken on a subtle but respectable patina and the tritium lume plots are free of any lume degradation. The lume has taken on a wonderful cream like patina and the hands are a touch lighter in coloration but are believed to be original to the watch especially when inspected under U.V. Light. Additionally, the minute hand does have some cracking but remains intact as seen in photos.

ACCESSORIES

None. The extended service history is unknown but the watch is keeping time and running perfectly.
