Do you still debate or argue?

When one is serious and enthusiastic about one’s hobby, it’s obvious that over the years you acquire more and more knowledge about the subject. Has nothing to do with you becoming an unbearable ‘know it all', you just know more about it then the average lay man. Many years ago I still argued. Some salesmen say whatever non sense it takes to make a sale (or they’re just ignorant) and I had to correct them. “Class A amps are just so old fashioned and hardly used anymore. In fact, they’ve become obsolete. It’s all A-B now”, and stuff like that. With a straight face and not a blink in the eye. Now I’m 46 I don’t bother anymore. Takes up too much energy. I still can be very amused overhearing such conversations. But it all depends on the store. If you’re visiting a dealer of reputable High End audio equipment, you won’t hear cock ‘n’ bull stories about Class A power amps. You will if you’re visiting a large media store where they just don’t sell the good stuff.

My question is: do you still debate or argue upon hearing facts or stories about you favorite subject that just aren’t true or, just like me, hardly bother anymore?

I make one exception. This is with flight jackets. If I come across a shop, be it on the Net or in the street, that tries to sell crappy copies as the real thing I always make a note and e-mail the owners. Non existing models numbers or a B-10 made out of leather don’t escape my comments.

I argue when I think the issue is serious and results could be harmful if allowed to go unchallenged. I don't give a rat's ass if it is just some clown spouting off (like Al Sharpton).

I like the good debate, but to be honest I have a real life is too short outlook and would rather spend my time similing then arguing.

depends on the persons attitude.
I have honed my skills a bit over the years. Backhanded compliments seem to put them in there place. They usually don't pick up on it until later.
Not worth my time arguing. If they have strong feelings about what they believe, you cannot change there minds.

I try to avoid an arguement, but would not hesitate to do so if the opposite person goes on and on about something I know I'm right about.

Goodwatch.

Where do you get a good "leather" flight jacket?
Not antique, but current bona fide jackets are OK.

This is one reason why I refuse to shop in "typical" electronics stores. Most who work in these stores don't know as much as the typical person selling a Rolex does, and that's saying something!

Healthy debate is good if the parties are learning from each other, but otherwise you might as well....

As far as watches are concerned, it depends on the company I'm with. If someone (like the know it all b!tch at my local watchmaker shop) starts spouting shite to me, I'll put up a few facts to show I know what I'm talking about, but stop when the true BS flies and walk out. But if I'm ever in that shop with a WIS friend, I'll stick to my guns, consequences be damned.

As far as arguing on forums, it's like pissing in the wind, when you're arguing with a moron (like some who moderate other forums). And anyone who is an internet bully, is seriously lacking in many critical personality trait areas.

I guess you mean this 'bum'? Look at the cheap, plastic Casio on his wrist. He is, however, Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's owner. At the latest count he was worth a staggering 15.8 billion Euro. Among his assets are: two yachts, the largest 132 meter and worth 108 million, a castle in Austria, 7 homes across Europe, a 440 acre estate in West Sussex and a 42 million pad in Belgravia. He has a Boeing 767-300 and a Boeing 737. And of course a plastic Casio, JJ!

It's all about priorities my friend. He has 30 bodyguards to protect his wife and 5 children. I guess he doesn't give a hoot about watches as long as they tell the time! He could use a shave too. But here I am, counting the days 'till I can buy another Rolex. I must be insane

Thanks for that picture, Frans....but I'm at a total loss for words. For starters, he needs a shave and then he, with all his billions, wears a watch that is an absolute POS....why, oh why, does God give money to the wrong people?
