This sounds corny to some, but take the Circle Line (boat) tour that goes all around Manhattan - it's slow and probably will be cold but the narrative and perspective
of seeing NYC that way is rather unique. Maybe possible also is to get crown access tickets for the Statue of Liberty. Check online now, as this is VERY cool to do even for native New Yorkers - crown access is by reservation only and since it's low season you may luck out. A Blue Man Group show is also neat for kids his age. |

Okay, so I'm going to give you the inside scoop here.
Close by your hotel, there are two McDonald's restaurants, superb dining... If you hang a left there, you'll find this amazing Asian spot called Panda Express, highly recommend. If you want some delicious NY pizza, there is this phenomenal Sbarro's right there too. Need to keep these recommendations here, can't let the word get out. |

In all seriousness, this post will be specific to the neighborhood you're staying in... If you're looking for Manhattan advice or specific activities, feel free to ask - I've got two little boys and have lived here forever, so happy to help.
For a lunch, def check out the the Dekalb Market at City Point, it's new, awesome, and close by where you are staying. For a lunch snack there, try Lioni's for a sandwich... I always liked them, but the trek out to Bensonhurst was a PITA - old school Italian sammich kind of spot, very happy they put one in the Dekalb Market, although the stand they put there isn't as good as the main store, still pretty tasty. They also put a Katz Deli in this market too, if you've ever wanted to try that. Tons of other delicious eats in there, I'm sure you can find something you want that will be excellent. Pizza, go to Lucali's, quick $8 cab ride from where you are staying, avoid the tourist traps like Grimaldi's or Juliana's - however, if you go to Lucali, make sure you go at 5:30pm and wait for 30 minutes for them to open, otherwise, you'll be waiting for a table for hours if you even get one. While I think there is better pizza to be found, just do a Google search on them, usually rated some of the best pizza in the world... I have others for pizza, but prob good to just go to Lucali so you can say you've had it. Weather depending, you should also get down to Brooklyn Bridge Park, amazing that 15 years ago there was nothing there and now it is this amazing waterfront park. Down by Pier 5/6 there are playgrounds for kids, your son is prob nearing the upper end of the age spectrum to enjoy it, but swing & slide parks there are still fun for kids 5-6. In the summer they have waterfront beach volleyball and there are huge turf fields there too for soccer. Someone mentioned the Transit Museum, I'd second that - it is walking distance from where you are staying. I had my son's 4th birthday party at the Brooklyn Children's Museum, prob a 10 minute cab ride from you, your son would probably enjoy that too. You'll be next to a tourist trap called Rocco's Tacos, avoid! Take a walk up Fulton St, which is right there - 20 years ago you'd be scared to walk by there at night, but in the last decade they've put luxury building after luxury building up there... Decent shopping if you're looking for outlet kinda stores... They've got most of the big ones on that block. Apple Store also just opened up at the end of the block, but I see no reason for anyone visiting to step foot in there. Someone else mentioned the Barclay's, if there is a game going on, last minute Stubhub seats should be cheap, I've taken my boy a bunch of times and he always has a blast for both hockey and basketball... You can find lower level seats for pretty good prices last minute that are all-inclusive of food, pretty decent stadium, but there are a lot of others I like better... Nonetheless, cool to check out. Again, if you're looking for specific things to do, eat, visit - feel free to ask. |

New York for 72 hours, with my son age 6. Brooklyn.
Great recommendations from Tbone (I live a stone’s throw from that Marriott). My only suggestion would be to skip Lucali and go to Sottocasa (my favorite) or Luzzo’s on Atlantic Ave— both great Neapolitan pizza places. Lucali is amazing, but the wait times can be bad when you have a restless 6 year old with you, and you can walk back to the hotel from the Atlantic Ave places easily.
Also not sure if Luger’s is worth it with a 6 year old, but it depends on kid I guess. We took my 7 year old niece to Keane’s (another classic NY steakhouse) and it was totally lost on her and she was bored and wanted to leave as quickly as possible. Luger’s is an institution in NY, but it’s much for fun for adults with a few bottles of wine and some bourbon. Although it could be a cool experience— again, depends on the kid, but you may end up spending a lot of money and have a bored kid that just wants to go do something else. |

Good recommendations from run23 above, I was recommending Lucali more so to say you've had it, while it is damn good, there are equivalents.
Sottocassa is a great recommendation - last time I ate there 3 months ago, Ethan Hawke was at the table behind me (he lives in the neighborhood). Also worth considering would be Brado or Dellaroccos. Really tough with a 6 year old at a steakhouse, but as my user name implies, that is an area of expertise. Although, with little kids, The Palm next to the WTC is prob the only place I'd say is acceptable, and there are a lot better meals to be had than that. |

Brooklyn Heights folks, Is the Queen Italian Resturant on Court Street still there and open?
I worked on Montague Street from 1973 to 1991 and then moved to Metrotech Center from 1991 to 2005. Haven't been there since but the Queen was a great place for Italian.

Bronx Zoo(Central Park Zoo) / Botanical Gardens(Probably boring for a 6 YO)
Luzzo's is good - both luger and keans are great but I don't think the kid will care. To bad FAO Scwartz no longer exists. Both Barclays & MSG could be a fun experience. Where is the wedding exactly?
