Clasp on Platinum President Bracelet

I have been looking at a 40 DayDate in Platinum.

The watch is dated Feb 2017 and yet the inside of the clasp is textured as in “sand blasted” if that is the correct term.

Yet my October 2016 WG 40DD is polished inside the clasp.

Does anyone know if the Platinum clasps are different from the gold ones in that respect?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 36mm. I don't know if Pt clasps are different than YG clasps, but, my Pt clasp has a brushed finish.

I have two modern subs, 114060 and a 116613lb. The ND is "sandblasated" and the 116613lb is high polish.

Rolex discontinued the sandblasted finishing on inner clasp somewhere in 2016. All new watches come with polished surface.

I personally preferred sandblasted surface.

Since platinum watches don’t exactly fly off the shelves, the most likely explanation is that it was manufactured prior to the switch to the polished clasp, even though it was sold after.

Here is an interesting development. I popped into Watches of Switzerland today and they have a brand new platinum DD40 that they received from Rolex in December 2017, the inside of the clasp has a brushed finish

My thoughts as well. However, maybe they've decided to keep the "frosted" finish on just the platinum models as another distinguishing factor?

In any case...enjoy it. Much prefer the frosted look over the polished.

Here are a couple photos of my 228206 which is a few months old. Seems to be a combination of brushed and polished.

Thought it would be interesting to bump this thread. I just received my brand new 228206 yesterday from my AD and the clasp is still sand finished. So while Rolex has changed to smooth for every other reference they kept it for the platinum DD40.

Maybe they already have those clasps in stock because they not sell so many of them as the gold versions. So when they run out
of them the new ones will be polished?

I don’t think that would be the case Jocke given relative newness of the 228206 but who knows. I know 3 people who all got 2018’s and all have sand finished clasp. Again only Rolex knows so if they change to smooth clasp then we will know for sure but for now they seem to be sand vs smooth.

Also congrats on the Pt40

All SD4K clasps are blasted inside despite being the same as the SS 6-digit Sub, so it's likely that bracelets are made as a full assembly and in bulk. The Pt DD40 probably sells in similar numbers to the SD4K, and once that bracelet stock is exhausted we might see an update to polished. The SD4K was discontinued before that could happen. Just my guess.

Thanks and who knows aside from Rolex themselves but we shall see. All I know is I have yet to hear of a smooth clasp one.

Thanks and sorry but never do family pictures as never take them all out of bank at once - only one at a time for me.

True. The last two 97400 (116600) service bracelets I've seen had blasted clasps as well, leaving me to think they're made in bulk and put into storage. But, you're right, only Rolex knows the true answer. I'm just guessing based on patterns.

My PT has a blasted/brushed finish as well. It is one of the things that differentiates the platinum version from the others. Like the smooth bezel.
