Rolex 1016 R/L originality help

Hello All,

I'm purchasing a Rolex 1016 with an R serial. How can I be sure the hands, dial, crown, and crystal are original?

I've read about using a UV flashlight. When I use the light what should happen? Should the lum work?

Should the crystal be full dome or beveled?

Is there anything else I can do to inspect the watch upon pick up? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Please post high resolution pictures before you take any actions.

Thank you for your reply. It's not NOS but it was just serviced by Rolex. I was concerned things were replaced during service, but it doesn't appear that way.

Thanks again

I've been meaning to post a similar thread. I have an R serial 1016 and the lume does not glow under UV light. I purchased from a VERY reputable dealer and was promised it was all original. Under a loupe, the tritium looks all original. I'm interested to hear others' opinions as well.

Not at all surprising the lume doesn’t glow.

There is no way to tell if the crown was replaced

unless its stated on service paperwork. The crystal has probably been replaced, I've had a few R & L serials that were untouched & came with the domed 22 crystal. You can expect that crowns, crystals & tubes will have been replaced & too me thats a non factor. Whats important is the dial & hands be original on this watch.

I also have a 1601 DateJust from 1970, the lume will glow for a few seconds then fade quickly. The 1016 doesn't glow even for a second.
