Just be careful & remember to buy the seller , there are lots of fakes out there of this model.

Rough shape OP but MY can do wonders on pieces like this. It may cost a bit to send it all the way to Hong Kong but in the end you will be pleased by the result.

Sorry mate, but if you look very very closely at the "ROLEX" print, the "L" is longer than the other letters. Also, the rust has not set in evenly enough on the case. Clearly, this is a fake, albeit a very very good fake which would fool most people. I hope you didn't pay too much for it...

Can't be a fake, I spoke to the owner and he said he inherited from his grandfather...

Just took a loupe to the picture ,and on closer inspection the screw thread looks like later MKV1 service screw thread to me from possibly the 72-83 date range ( quite easier to spot really as "roLex" were still using the Archimedes screw thread until 83 ). Does it come with any service history or B&P ?.

This is a well known font variant. Probably a transitional reference.

That patina is a little inconsistent all over. Looks like there could be some service parts in there.

That's a special ROLEX case vice for clamping cases while using the old school Rolex chisel to remove the caseback.

These wear a bit top heavy, especially on a rubber strap.

The chrono-shop is proud of their Rolex bench vice. Those pipe jaws should hold a watch case nicely when trying to remove the case back.

Nice mixture of spider and tropical dial. I am not sure about the font. Could it be MKVII?

Send it to Michael Young, and get that stretch managed, then ship to LAWW for service.

Fake - the genuine one was manufactured with the proper 904L stainless steel.

Definitely transitional. Looks like it has the short handle that was only used for 1 year.

Thanks for all the positive input, one thing I’d like to know is; is it safe to wear these older pieces in the shower?

it is, and I do, although shaving with it on can be a major drain

I heard this was actually a concept Rolex, it was supposed to replace the weights used on the BC. Very lucky find!

There are some signs of laser welding that I hope the seller properly disclosed. Otherwise nice tropical colors throughout that should command a notable premium in that vintage model.
