Concierges

Still in the process of waiting for that call from the AD. But am wondering if I can outsource the search to the pros. Maybe different avenues would bring faster results. I know my credit cards have concierge benefits and my work does have a concierge office. Though I am not too sure if they'll handle this type of request. Anyone ever try or have any success?

Be patient.

I think you'll be much more satisfied with your results.

Basel is bound to change the way a lot of Rolex WISes look at their collections and their future desires.

I would think that the concierges would be the best people to answer a question about what they are willing and able to do for you.

As an aside, you've given me an idea for a business. It would be a service that would help people find a good concierge or get them an appointment with a really exclusive concierge...or maybe even go to their appointment with he concierge for them if they are too busy to go themselves.

Wouldn’t a grey dealer do this for you (especially trusted sellers here)? I’m sure that if you called them up with a request on a specific watch they should be able to get it for you. Since you’re talking AD I assume you’re looking at a modern watch and not vintage (even then many of the trusted sellers would be able to source with time).

A concierge will just pay whatever it takes to get what you want. The money part never matters to them. I have paid $125 for a 6 pack of Hanes T-shirt’s thru a concierge before. I find that they are most useful when what you want is “access” and not an “item”.

One of my AD’s told me he received several calls from AMEX trying to source the SS Daytona C for their cardholders. He told AMEX to pound sand and get in line with everyone else.

I used concierge at AMEX Platinum for Broadway tickets or restaurant reservations. Never tried to buy a watch through them.

Great avenue for access to reservations at hard to get into restaurants, theater tickets, hotel amenities, flights, etc. I wouldn't even try for a watch.

This opens the door for an entirely new profession. A professional 'watch consultant' who for a fee procures any timepiece that a customer is seeking (subject to availability). It would include attending auctions, negotiating with ADs and gray dealers, the pre-owned market and whatnot.

No different than a 'buyer's agent' in RE. Considering the worldwide travel opportunities, 4-star lodgings, per diems and any bonus clauses, it could be a fun occupation/pastime for some individuals.

Cost-wise, maybe not a joyride for the customer.

I have an Amex Centurion and they probably helped a bit on a recent Patek application piece.

It will be my first rolex (BLNR) so I want it directly from the AD with my name on everything. Already in line with ADs and should get one in about two months, but I am not the most patient person in the world.

With amex concierge, I know you can place cost limitations such as msrp only. Was thinking if they'll have some pull or at least can cold call every AD out there... lol. Might as well put my annual fee to use other then free drinks at the airport.

$50 for two boxes of Krispy Kreme Donuts delivered to me at the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel in Vegas.

Worth...

Every...

Penny

As for Rolex, pay the price... get the watch you want.

That was easy.

PS credit card service works, especially the premium ones. Sometimes exotic car manufacturers also offer certain services to their clientele.

Not to hijack the thread, but there must be a good story behind this!
