Icon5 Rolex WG Daytona. 116509. Racing Dial

It is a V Serial and so it is app. 9 yrs old. Some say the bezel is polished and that that black lacquer is missing to some extent in the little recesses.

I was thinking that maybe I should send it in to RSC for a full overhaul

I read here on TRF that when RSC services the PM Daytona they don’t fill in the lacquer. They only replace bezel. Is that true?

Has anyone successfully painted or used a sharpee to fill in recessed triangles and numbers?

But!, the watch is keeping excellent time and I’d like to save the, by the way how much is a service?

From the photos it looks great to me. I wouldn’t know if the black was faded/missing. I’d rock it till you NEED service, and then if it bothers you swap the bezel.

Sorry have no experience regarding painting the bezel.

There is a YouTube video of someone doing exactly this but on an Explorer II.

The RSC would charge somewhere North of $1000 for a full overhaul.
But you could send it in just for refinishing the bezel & case if you are bothered by the slight shortcomings.

IMHO I’d wait until it really needs a service - they will refinish that bezel as long as you don’t do it any real damage that renders it dysfunctional.

True in my experience for my 116509. The RSC (HK) wouldn't fill in worn black lacquer, the only option was to replace the bezel. I declined since it wasn't that bad.

The cost for it's last RSC visit was appx. (equivalent) 2K USD. That included some parts for bracelet clasp (for sure) and perhaps the crown (if I'm remembering correctly) in addition to the movement service, so a service with no WG replacement parts would be noticeably lower. To replace the bezel (again if I remember correctly) the quoted price was appx 1,300 USD.

I never tried the black sharpie but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

Everything is for sale at the right price...

I did a very light polish under magnification with some fine wooden tools. Some only 1/8” to get just the areas that were needed

Then a new sharpee, 2 coats

Then I found out that there was some locktite stuck on the screw shafts. Cleaned that all out and Now it looks good and works good

The newer 116509 seem to have a slightly different bezel so the paint doesn’t come away.

Here’s my G serial.

Is this watch posted in the FS section of TRF? As you can see from the post below, that would be against forum rules.
