Blemish on new Rolex Day-Date

Hello,

I bought a new Rolex 118238 Day-Date on eBay from a known and trusted seller 10 days ago. Today I discovered two blemishes on the dial, one is a small hair stuck inside the paint on the word “Swiss” at 6 o’clock. The other blemish is on the minute track at 5 o’clock where there is a tiny glob of paint on the track marking it fatter than the rest.
I contacted Rolex service center, and they said it would have to be send to them for repair, with a 3-4 month wait.
At this point I would rather just return the watch, would other people on this thread do the same, or different?
Thank you.

Does Ebay help with the return if the seller might not accept to take it back?

Here is a picture of the two spots.
It’s hard to photograph it due to the reflection on the crystal.

If the deal was good and you can not see it and you love the watch, ask for him to fix it. Ask for a price concession. Put the loop up and wear your watch.

Almost all dials will have some minor imperfections if seen from a loupe and god forbid a microscope. Enjoy the watch if it's not visible from naked eye.

Was the blemish visible in the original sale ad?

As you bought it on ebay you clearly got it for a good price. If you are otherwise happy, I'd ask for Ask for a small refund to cover the imperfection.

Its a 36mm watch - those imperfections will be microscipic, so see if you can live with it - if not send it in for warranty repair and the RSC will fix it.

This is why you never take a loupe to any watch.

You WILL find something wrong if looking hard enough.

i don't think it's a big deal but i'm sure it's all you see.

i bet they give you a 3 day window to do a return and it's now a week past.

ok it's on the dial, hard to do that yourself but - might be more problems than it's worth.

Yes I didn’t pay retail for it, but 23K aren’t cheap either. I guess I expected not these imperfections on such a watch.
My sea-dweller 4000 has nothing like this, and costs one third.

When I look closely on the pictures on eBay, one can see the two spots. So I didn’t cause them.

I agree, this is totally unacceptable. At this price point you're paying for some superior quality control allegedly, and the "passion for perfection" and all their marketing b*******.

My $100 fossil watch has a perfect dial with no blemishes.

Unacceptable, return for refund.

Did you pay 23k? For that money you could have done a heck of a lot better on the TRF classifieds, IMO.

Two words that don't go together...eBay and Rolex.

You are probably right, but the seller has a good feedback. And yes I did pay 23k for this watch, as I was looking for a new one.

Not true. I bought a 1921 Marconi Rolex from Brazil a couple years ago for $330. Came in exactly as pictured described. One of the coolest vintage watches I'd had in a while, and gave it to my best friend as a wedding present. He absolutely loved it and wore it in the ceremony. It continues to run, while the marriage ended up needing a full service, and she got overhauled for a new model

Yes, I’m trying to return it for a refund. Haven’t heard back from seller yet, as I filed for return last night.
I don’t want to have to fix it myself and be out of the watch for 3-4 months. Especially not at this price point.

Oh, there are some instances of success. Absolutely. But, there are many more so scammers and thieves on eBay...check out the Watch Out sub-forum sometime. In our tightly controlled TRF community, thanks to our vigilant moderators and highly thoughtful users, we enjoy a much safer buying experience.

I didn’t buy this watch from a random guy though. It’s a known Rolex seller with several hundred watches posted.

Ebay is probably safer than TRF where most sellers want a bank wire. Zero protection there. With Ebay you can pay via Paypal with a credit card = 100% protection.

Even if you get scammed you are going to get your money back.

That’s what I thought.
I did see a post of one forum member last December, and he was scammed by a seller here on TRF.

Boom! OCD will drive you to be an unhappy person looking for perfection where it doesn't exist.

Yep. When it happens that money is gone forever.

I've bought and sold a bunch of watches on Ebay...never a single issue.

I'd keep it. These are tiny and not worth the hassle of returning and potentially dealing with an angry seller who thinks you are nitpicking.
