Vintage 5500 Advice!
Hi! I was hoping to get some advice from the experts. I found the following 5500 with a refinished explorer dial on Ebay:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ROL...cAAOSw3WxaTHdL I'm considering it, despite the refinished dial, because a real 1016 is likely forever out of my reach, and 34mm is actually a better size for me anyway. While I know a refinished dial is usually a cardinal sin, as long as I'm honest about what I have I think I could really enjoy wearing it. I was hoping someone could help me determine if the rest of the watch looks ok. Are the case and crown original? Are the hands Rolex? Considering the dial refinish, does this seem like a good price? Is this just a terrible idea? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

34mm is pretty small, personally I’d stick with 36mm. As for buying a watch which is largely misrepresenting itself as an explorer dial 5500 when it almost certainly had no such dial is not any good to me. I would pass and either get a correct airking or save for the actual watch you want which seems be a 1016.

Pass on this watch. A fake Explorer is not a good deal at any price. Old saying..."Buy cheap and pay twice." Look at some of the post-1016 Explorers...you should save some money on those and get the real thing.
