Am looking to buy my first Rolex this year. Waiting to see what happens in Basel. But my aim is to go for a watch I can wear daily and keep for many years.
Contenders are of course the SUB (No-date), but I do also like the Explorer I and am pondering others in the range. Looking forward to contribute here, have read many posts and it appears a nice friendly place to spend time!

Both great choices. Depending on when you want to buy, most Basel releases don't start hitting dealers until Aug / Sep time frame (common timing). Just keep that in mind when looking.

Both of those have received extensive re-designs fairly recently...so I think you'd be safe with either now. Rumors abound about the sub receiving a new movement, but TBH, I can't see that being much of a factor to the ordinary human.

Welcome - likewise I'm excited for Basel 2018 - if Rolex ever re-release the Explorer in 36mm but with new movement and bracelet I would be tempted to buy it... otherwise I would just keep wearing all the time my trusty 114270

Thank you all...yes I do like the sub just wondering if it will be too chunky for an everyday wear, and I am just buying in to the hype.

As I get older, maybe the Explorer I will just suit me better. Yes maybe not as 'fashionable' in the current climate, but never have been one for fashion. Planning to try one on soon and see how it feels. Problem in UK with supply is the issue and no ADs seem to have anything in stock!

Hello Newbie.

Two great options.

However, with the timing bezel and the glidelock clasp it is hard to go wrong with the sub.

Welcome to The Forum! Lots of very valuable resources here. Any question you can think of has been addressed in some TRF thread at some point in time!

Lots to love about the Explorer and the Submariner. The Explorer is super-comfy and low-key, while the Sub packs a bit more oomph in terms of size and appearance (the Explorer wears smaller than its 39mm spec implies, while the Submariner wears larger than its 40mm spec implies).

Have fun choosing the one you prefer!

doubt they will release a 36mm variant as the tudor BB36 fills that gap. They have a nice inter-brand thing going with the bb36, Exp1 at 39mm, and the bb41
