Was the Kermit popular?
I only recently got in to this hobby and wanted to know if the Kermit was popular when it came out? Was it hard to get just like the Hulk? If so, why was it only produced for a single year? Or are my facts wrong and it was produced for longer.

It was very difficult at first, and then eased up a bit. This was my very first Rolex (long gone though). It was produced for about 4 years....(I'm guessing)

Sold for roughly 7 years from 2003-2010. It was popular like the lvc was but recently all rolex have experienced an unreal boost.

Not sure how popular it was when first produced, but it is very popular now (especially flat 4 inserts)

When it first came out there were a lot of nay sayers. The hype came later

I wore it for awhile and just didn't get it at the time. Wanted it to match with clothes and it never really did for me. Now I wear the second one that I bought as a darn near daily wearer. Once these were discontinued after being a limited edition with a short run they went up in price a bit. That was what 7 years ago? Now finding one with all the bits and pieces will cost you. A new unworn one will really set you back. Prices have shot up. |

I remember when the 16610LV came out, demand was so high that it was impossible to order one. The hype was similar to Daytonas.
After Rolex continued after the Anniversary year, they became available better, at the end of the cycle, demand went up again and the last pieces went away quickly. |

They were tough to get at first. I was lucky and got 2 Y's back in 03' from 2 AD's and the price was around $5k if I remember...Been a while!

I remember that it was very difficult to get when introduced.
There were waiting lists at ADs, and it was the first time I remember reading about the "developing a relationship with the dealer" thing to be "eligible"... At the very beginning it was thought to be a limited edition for that year only. Once it was clear that it was going to be in continued production it became more available. |

I picked mine up in 2008, it appeared to have been sitting at the AD for a while.
Ended up getting 20% off and walking out with it.

I bought my first Rolex in 2008 and they were plentiful. MSRP was ~$5600. Doesn't seem like a bad price now.

2010 had a chance to purchase kermit from the AD. Brought it out of vault with white gloves for me to look at. I didnt have the cash since newborn was coming, but should have purchased it for $6,000 that was being offered to me at the time. Now, cant find one for less than $9,000

I wonder if like 10 years from now we’ll all be saying the same. “Shoulda bought that 116610lv when I had the chance” or “bought one for msrp or above retail and now its worth $xxxx more!”

Well i sure hope I’m able to find one soon. But with all they hype, haven’t been able to acquire one from anyone of my ADs. 16610lv Kermit opportunity has long passed for me. Wasn’t really into collecting these nor did I have the funds to afford one at the time as I was in Med school. Now I’m catching up and once I’ve got the new LV, Daytona C, may e a blue skydweller and ........then I’ll be whole. LOL.

I remembered back then many was complaining the Kermit about the maxi dial and green bezel but it was hard to find at the beginning, I bought my first one from the AD in 2005 at MSRP for less than $5000 and bought 2 more later for my brother and uncle. They were never on displayed at ADs during those time.
I thought the green aluminium bezel was so different and beautiful just like the SD43 now, so get the SD43 now since many are still pissing about it and the hype is not there yet. I'm glad still have both. A pic of my 50th anniversary diver watches. |

I recall there were several years that the Kermit was stagnant at approximately $5.5k—$5.8k. As mentioned above, after the first year most collectors ignored the watch.

My local ADs had them sporadically over most of the production years , but the green bezel just didn't do it for me . I thought the bezel was a little gimmicky at the time ,and that it wasn't a true Submariner like lots of other people .But tastes change & now they are one of the hottest references out there , & I was lucky enough to pick up a V serial full set last year ,to celebrate my fiftieth . A 50 for 50

After the initial rush these were fairly easy to get at ADs. The HULK wasn't the monster that it is today at first either. Amazing how the internet has popularized our hobby.

Some hype but nothing like the hype for SS models of late. I got one early on and put an LN bezel insert in it. Only kept it a year or so and moved it on. Wish I still had it, especially that original insert. I was still into lug holes back then and did not like the no holes case. I did like the maxi dial though...a lot.
