DJ 41 chipped/scratched bezel. Idea? Suggestion?
Hi all, tried to ask the question in some threads but no answer, so I thought I start my own thread.
I'm thinking to let go my DJ 41, but several months ago I dropped it accidentally thus creating this deep scratched/chipped on the bezel, hopefully, you guys can all see it from these photos. Anyone know if this type of thing can be easily polished? Or should I purchase a new bezel to replace it and then sell it. Not sure how much original bezel from Rolex, but I notice aftermarket parts on eBay cost relatively $800-900 for WG Another option is, the main reason I want to let it go is due to the really shiny bezel, it's a little bit 'loud' for me, I also saw a SS bezel replacement for DJ, thinking maybe I can get the SS bezel and just keep the DJ, after all, I bought the watch when my daughter turned 1. Any suggestions appreciated. |

That's going to need a new bezel. Being at the top of one of the flutes, no way to polish that out

As suspected. Thanks. Assuming not using Rolex original bezel, selling price will be not that good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If it’s under warranty, RSC would just charge the replacement cost and not a service right?

They can argue the size of scratch and the drop could mean internal damage and so needs it. You might be able to argue it is running fine but Rolex are a law unto themselves.

That’s Rolex for you. Damage to the bezel that bad, they’ll assume was from a pretty large hit, and it likely was which could shock the movement. They’ll ding you for a service whenever they can Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Being kind, loving and paying attention to people don't cost a thing , that's free but how much does it cost for a new replacement WG fluted bezel on DJ41 Ref 126334 ???
Something like US $ 2100 ?? (minus service charge) or more since the US dollar has depreciated 12% against the Malaysian Ringgit in the last 12 mths |

Seems like wearing it as is and waiting until a service is required is a good bet as it can happen again. I've got a couple of watches I'm tempted to repair but I keep holding off and wearing them as they work fine and I'm really the only one who notices. I have repaired other that I've considered selling but in the end kept them.

Thanks for the suggestion. Might change to SS bezel and keep the original for future purpose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think it depends how badly you want to get rid of it. You will most certainly take a hit with the scratch, although it doesn’t look terrible. Is the loss tolerable enough to still sell it? Usually when I’ve made my mind up that a watch needs to go... it needs to go.

That’s what I’m afraid off. Even though I bought it quite under retail from grey still try to get a good amount for it, might check with some grey how much they think it’s worth these days. I’m planning to get a WG daytone end of this year, so the extra cash definitely will help :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wonder if RSC would replace with a smooth bezel instead of fluted, and then you’d maybe consider keeping it? Not sure if RSC would do this though(?)

I’ve read on another thread that Rolex will definitely keep it with the original style, fluted replace with fluted, pepsi bezel replace with pepse bezel etc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Technically that is a DJII not a DJ 41. But.. if you try to sell that as is you are just shifting the cost to fix it from you to the buyer. Unless you find a buyer who doesn't know what it will cost to fix it and take advantage of that situation. Not sure how you feel about that.
I'd go back to the grey dealer I bought it from and look to flip it for a watch you want with the SS bezel. Most grey's have a watchmakker they can get things fixed at a discount so they might give you more for the watch than you'd have to discount it to a savy buyer. |

It’s also why Rolex won’t replace a smooth steel DJ bezel for fluted if you have a change of heart after buying the watch. The replacement cost shouldn’t be too bad, because they factor in the value of the gold bezel you are giving back to them. Parts are on an exchange basis only. It’s a lovely watch. I have one as well. To my eye it’s one of th best white dial Rolex available and being a DJ2 it’s is now unobtainium. I’d get it fixed and keep enjoying it or wait until service time to have it done. You can’t beat a fluted bezel in a Datejust, they look just so right. |

Are you sure? Did rsc officially said no? They for sure don't mind selling you a jubilee bracelet when I got a DJ41 on oyster. |

That’s because jubliee and oyster don’t affect the watch’s reference number. If you look, you’ll notice the reference number is different depending if you have fluted or smooth bezel for the DJ41 (126334 vs 126300).

I shrunk the pic to actual size and the mark looks like nothing. Just wear it. It's beautiful. Time to own that beauty.

Instead of rushing to replace it and end up being dinged again later, why not just wear it to the fullest and worry later?

Don't forget the crown. It appears to have been dinged fairly well, too.

I'd just sell it to a trusted seller here and take the hit and get on with the watch you want to buy, if you trade with the same dealer they will give you a better deal.

Why use an aftermarket bezel?
Also looks like crown took a hit, and maybe crystal. Rolex may want a full service because you damaged the movement. Expensive repair. |

Does anyone actually know how much Rolex charges for a new bezel for the DJ41?

Respectfully, if it was a bit too loud, why did you buy it? These are harsh financial lessons to learn by getting something you didn't really like and then selling it. Buy what you love and hold on to them my friend!
As far as the bezel goes, a polish won't do it, and I don't know if a fill will work on a surface like a fluted bezel. Probably needs replacing, or just wear it proudly. I feel for you brother, hope it works out. |

I'm surprised no one pointed out that the OP should just leave it alone. It honestly doesn't look bad to me. Stop looking at it!
Upon resale at most it'll be a $700 off the price you originally intended to sell it
