Rotating bezel doesn’t exactly equal divers. The bezel is graduated in 24 hr increments, it is actually a bi-directional rotating bezel so you can add or subtract hours to the second time zone, effectively giving you 3 time zone functionality

history of GMT was the Pan Am pilots used the watch when they flew in different time zones.

legibility isn't exclusive to divers. Its a pretty essential element of a watch. Also, the Explorer II and the YM also have the exact same dial markers.

Reasonable question. I think simply because it works best. Though I'd love to see some photoshops - 3,6,9 (erm 6,9,12 because of date), batons, arabic, Romans etc on GMTs. That would be interesting.

True "divers' bezels" are unidirectional. The GMT bezel is bi-directional.

Have to agree. The GMT's dial is perfect. Legibility isn't exclusive to diving. Furthermore, I'm not sure what a divers dial is....look across the watch industry and you will just see different designs for dials. This is Rolex's and it is damn near perfect in my opinion.

It's not a divers dial. With a divers bezel it can only rotate anticlockwise. This is so whenever or if, you go diving and you set the bezel to say 15 minutes as that's how much air you have in the tank, you can't accidently turn the bezel clockwise and give a false and potentially fatal reading indicating you have more air time than you actually have. With the bezel only turning anticlockwise, if you did accidently rotate it, in a true divers bezel, the worst that will happen is the watch will indicate you have less air than you actually have. The GMT though looking like a divers bezel is actually a bezel that gives functionality so you can easily set a second time zone. It's not unidirectional. It also has 24 hour markers unlike the divers.
