Looking for 1st gold Rolex - 5-digit or 6-digit?
Interested in either a sub or GMT, not two-tone. I have a 16710 pepsi and also the Hulk. Love both, and if I were to get another steal piece, it would most likely be a 4-digit. But now I'm thinking gold...
What are your thoughts here? Is the 6-digit that much heavier? Is it too much, as in does it scream "look at me!" a little too loudly? For the 5-digit, does it seem to have a bit too much of the 90's vibe / look? Just questions, so don't shoot me! I just don't know if the 4-5k premium for a 6-digit warrants it, but I'm interested to know your thoughts.

It's not about looks, it's about wearability...for me, anyway.
With fewer permanent links and adjustable clasp (glide lock for the sub, and easy link for the GMT), the 6 digit wins every time. |

6-digit. I am in the newer-is-better camp, with exception to very few collectible models

For gold I would get a 6 digit.

I love the six digit models and prefer them all the way in SS. I get where you are coming from on PM though. I think the five digit gold subs look more elegant and refined in solid gold. Love the "vibe" you are talking about. If you love the vibe more than the technical superiority of the 6 digit, by all means get the 5. I probably would.

Presuming you're talking about yellow gold? I strongly prefer the design sensibility of 5 digits over the clunkier 6. But, it really depends on the specific piece you find available. With gold professional series, I would avoid ones that look like they were daily wearers in either generation. If you find a very tight 5 digit gold piece, I say go for that over a 6. I think 5 digit gold subs are great.

6 digits, not much difference in loudness but glidelock makes it easy to have a good fit.

116618LB. It is a great watch and I love mine. If you plan to keep it, buy new. You can get 25% off with the more established trusted sellers.

6-digit is nice.
Anyone with money can buy it. 5-digit is better. IMHO. The latter is more of an acquired taste - and a more difficult find / search to find the right watch. :) |

As someone who's first Rolex was a six digit, I don't think I could ever get a non-ceramic model unless like other have said, its a collectors item. For me the other exception is a birth year sub, on a strap.

1984, looking for a no date
Also just got a D-Blue this month, so I'm not looking too hard while the bank account recovers

If you shop around a lot, you will find the prices between 5 and 6 digits are very close, so six digit for more bracelet weight and durability, imo.

6 digit for me. The look, comfort, thicker lugs, larger crown guards, ceramic bezel...... etc makes the 6 digit (to me) way better than 5 digit

As much as I love (and own both) 5 digit Subs/GMTs in YG, the 6 digit gets my vote.
The redesigned case/bracelet/clasp, make for one heck of a watch, comfortable to wear and with unquestionable wrist presence. It's a joy to wear and to look at each and every time for me! If I may suggest (if this is your first PM Rolex and money is not an issue).. Go with a 116618, sunburst blue dial. It's a stunning piece!
