Daytona RG Chocolate or ALS Richard Lange?
It's dilemma time dear fellows TRF.
Your input and opinions greatly appreciated. A straight swap between the Daytona RG chocolate dial and leather strap 116515 with the ALS Richard Lange RG. Both watches 2nd hand, very good conditions. Daytona circa 2015. ALS RL 2013. Both no service history. Yay or Nay? |

Easy choice, Id take the 116515 all day. That particular Lange will sit forever, $30k retail is just not realistic for what it offers, and ALS has since corrected their strategy - look at the new Saxonia Moonphase, for the same price you get automatic, big date, and live moon phase.

Hold Daytona. There are other Langes that I prefer. 1815 chrono, Lange 1 moon phase for example

I’d make the trade. That particular Lange is really elegant and the movement is something else!

The RL wears quite large so if that is OK then go for it, really like the design.

Super tricky, I think the RL is a magnificent watch and I have almost zero love for Daytona, so, if the RL sets your heart aflame then go for it
Were it me, a 116515 would get roughly 21K on the secondary market, which is ballpark for an ALS Up Down or Lange 1...which would be my preference... But if some one put both the Daytona and the RL in front of me and told me to take one, it would not be the Daytona. |

Replying your question, I will go for the Daytona as I think it has more wrist presence and more versatile.

Good dilemma to have! Has to be the Rolex, "younger" and with the "no service history" thought in mind, I would err on the side of the historically more durable.
So "daft" is a bad forum word? |

I would do it, especially if you have other Rolexes. Lange i feel is on a different level.

Daytona all day everyday. The ALS RL is a very nice watch but in my mind not worth the price

Language Timothy! I know precisely who the Watch Snob is, not that I’ve ever paid any attention to what he’s written. Tokyo must suck the humour out of a person, because you seem devoid of any sense of it whatsoever. Learn to lighten up, and stop taking everything so bloody seriously! |

Ask somewhere other than TRF. There's no comparison, the ALS is leagues above.

So I really know very little about ALS except that they are held in extremely high regard. So take this for what it's worth, but I think the 116515 is an extraordinary piece and based on looks alone, I'd stick with it. |

X2 lange is either equal to or better than Patek imo. I think definitely better than ap and vc. It is not on the same level or meant for the same purpose as a rolex. I would look into the lange 1 moonphase. Seeing it in person blows away any patek I’ve seen imo.

If you have other ALS models in mind, I would suggest you to pass it. As you mentioned, you may consider the Saxonia Out-sized date with MP or the newly introduced Saxonia Out-sized date.
For me, I am looking for the Saxonia Annual Calendar (PT) version. I was told by the Boutique the PT version is discontinued. :sigh: |
