Painted hands on the Explorer Polar
Hello Rolex Polar owners!
At my local Rolex dealer I had the chance to get my hands on a Explorer II Polar. What I noticed is, that the sides of the hands are not painted very well. The bare metal looks through or the look partially sanded and painted. As they did not have a second one to compare to, let me ask: Is this the matter with this model general or are the hands on your Polars painted perfect, even on the sides and at the center? Thank you Stephan |

I'm sure there will always be variations since they can't just dip the entire hand in paint. I really wouldn't fret, if it's bad enough they'll just replace it for you during service. Buy it and enjoy.

I have the ExpII and I can't say I have ever noticed this however I have seen posts on the forum in the past where people have taken very close up photos to highlight it.
It wouldn't ever stop me from getting one and as I said I've never noticed it on my watch. If it is common to all watches then I can say for sure that you will not even notice it in normal use.

Yeah, that’s normal, they only paint the top of the hands such as to keep the sharp edges.

It's also not possible to apply a thin layer of paint to a sharp edge without it pulling back from the edge a bit anyway. It's all about surface tension. |

Had the same on my G serial 16570 polar a few years ago. Called the Dallas RSC and was told that it is normal as only the face or top of the hands are painted.

Painted hands on the Explorer Polar
I won’t say “normal” as the definition means something meets a norm. The expectation by Rolex is all edges and top would be paired flawlessly...but it does happen, though.
But sorting through hundreds of macro’s only finds one or two edges looking that way. The two below are what I’d say is normal...full coverage to the edges. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

It is extremely common in the White dialed 16570s to see the paint “spattered” on the hand sides, as for the 216570 I’m not sure. I have an M serial 16570 and it has the side spatter but you have to use a loupe to see it. Doesn’t bother me at all.

My 5 digit had hands like you’re describing that I could see unassisted. My 6 digit hands are perfect to my naked eye
