PM Daytona Resale

Lets say I went bananas and spent 32k on a brand new PM Daytona. What would it likely to be worth the minute I took the stickers off and put it on my wrist?
Are these things like driving a new car off of the lot.............................?

I'd say right around 15-20% loss if you try to sell it back to a trusted seller. Probably around a 10-15% loss if you have a good reputation and try to sell it yourself assuming you find a trusting buyer. I think if you're buying PM Rolex, you should really care about the watch and go in thinking you won't sell.....because the loss is for sure there without a doubt.

If you can afford a pm it might not affect you much. I see it as better then a car. You only take that hit going from new to used once and it holds it there .. as for most cars it just keep dropping and dropping. Even SS watch you take a hit

Is 32K retail or with discount? PM Daytona have varying MSRPs .. 116505/116509 37,450.. 116508 34,650.. etc etc

Depends on which model. The recently released OysterFlex models are still selling close to retail on secondary market. You can see this on the for sale section. Some older models/dial combos are selling at steep discounts. Do you research on your model and you will find the answer you seek. Put the reference # into the search bar on on watchrecon and Chronos24 and you will get a rough market value. Good luck.

Most Rolex's you will take a hit especially on PM pieces. But if you can afford a PM well you probably don't care about resale. You gotta pay to play.

The only ones you prob wont take a hit on is SS Daytona or a Blue Sky-D.

Watches though are alot better than cars. Now that is an expensive hobby.

I thought it would be more than that. Several months ago, I was looking at a BLRO, which appeared to have sit in the case for a very long time (yellow peeling stickers). The dealer kind of hinted 15% to 20% discount if I want it.
I imagine if you sell it used, it will be even lower.

MSRP is 37k I think and looking around at these 32k from a non AD is pretty much in the ballpark. 116509.

I do like the OF models, and I do like rubber straps, just not at PM prices.

I bought mine slightly used, for less than wholesale price of a new one. I have no intention to sell it (ever), but kinda figured it would eventually drop perhaps $10k from where I bought it. I now doubt it will depreciate that much, but it was easy to avoid the big drop by buying slightly used. Ask me how much I care that my name isn’t on the warrantee card. It bothers some people, but certainly not me.

And as much as I would buy it with a view to keeping it, I know myself all too well and so the temperature of the resale bath is very relevant to me. Buying used would be an option if it was all going to be cash, but it wouldn’t be. Despite my good looks, I aint made of cheddar!

You probably could sell it privately for around 27K~, to a watch broker you'll be below that as they will probably sell it for 27k~ and they need a profit margin.

So its a brand new car type deal

40% off msrp is typical loss to resellers, or 30% or so loss to your private sale. Call the usual TRF resellers, tell them you have one for sale and what they'll offer. Please post here what each one offers.

Again, dont take our word for it, call resellers and see what they offer you. Post back.

You gave up too fast. A preowned Platona at or under $50K is the best deal since you can move it within a year without much risk. And if you kept it 5 years, it might rise up.

Definitely more if he's buying MSRP. But with 32k I'm guessing he's looking at a gold bracelet Daytona of some kind grey new. But I could be making assumptions there....my estimation would be based on the patterns I've observed on sale and resale in the grey/used market.

Don't get discouraged. If your heart is in it for a certain watch, buy the watch you want. Don't think about resale value and just truly enjoy what's on your wrist. It doesn't matter if you're never going to sell it, and if you're buying with disposable income and buying as correctly as possible (either via grey or used), the repercussions is pretty slight compared to the enjoyment/passion you get from the piece you really crave.

If you want to invest the 32K, then I say put it into one of the FANG. I can assure you'll be far ahead than the watch. You'll probably see appreciation value if you're lucky to live long enough :) . Also...you'll be spending $1000 every 5 years for maintenance :) . Like other stated, the watch is going to take a depreciation at the beginning, but it will take awhile to go back at even after being "discontinued"....which can take 10 years...and then collectors would want a minty with paper, box, etc.

Now, you should wear it if you're considering spending 32K. Good luck.

I do enjoy this hobby though...it's not about the money...It's about the beauty of a watch. Someday when I win the lotto, I'll want a Daytona 6263 :) . That's my holy grail, but I rather use that money on FANG :)

Actually while they still take a hit, PM Daytona’s have the best resale value out of all the PM sports watches. They tend to go for more than gold Subs and GMTs. In the current market prices on nearly every Rolex but Datejusts have risen. We’re a week away from Baselworld and still no previews nor any indication that the current situation will change much if at all.

Agree with this with one exception the Oysterflex’s still quite strong especially the WG Steel dial and YG Champagne dial.

My rule of gold is after a discount I would take on average a 20% loss on a PM piece, if you can't handle that then you shouldn't be buying these.

Well...I don't want to kill off anyone's dreams.

You are looking at strictly worst case scenario, say you had to dump it right after you got it and put some nice scratches on it. Let's say you just had to have the cash for some reason. Or you just didn't bond with it.

Here's another scenario. Let's say you found a good deal on a mint or LNIB watch. You like the watch and nothing catastrophic happens so you hang on to it for awhile. As you do that, prices rise either due to scarcity, discontinuation, or a price raise. Now you're sitting there with a gold watch you can dump and not lose anything. And I say again, you're sitting there with a gold watch...

RG Daytona Oysterfex has SRP of $28,800. An AD offered to sell it me for $26,495 which is an 8% discount. TS and AD is pretty close in price on a PM Daytona.

A used 116515 on a leather strap will go for 18-19K.
