You people are pure evil - Incoming!
As I have been saying, you people are nothing but enablers! If you have seen my other thread https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=594454 I was considering adding a no date Sub as a kind of "beater" relaxed casual watch to my collection. I love my SD43 but I think it's almost too nice to wear in certain situations - it just sort of screams Rolex and in some places I may want to be a little more under the radar than that. So I even considered replacing my SD with a Sub. A couple people on that thread suggested I look into maybe purchasing a Tudor, and keeping the Sea Dweller.
Which brings me to today. I visited one of my AD's and took a look at a Submariner. Naturally they only had a TT or YG in stock. No stainless models at all (big shock, I know). So I tried on the TT and although I liked it a lot, I still had the same issue with it I had with my old GMT - it just seems a little smaller on me than I prefer. So I was still torn - should I spend 8 grand on a watch that wears a little smaller than I want and is so close to the Sea Dweller? Well I turn around and realize that they also sell Tudor. I have honestly never considered getting a Tudor watch but I figured what the heck, might as well check them out while I'm here. They had three Black Bay 41's in stock - the Dark, the new model red bezel, and the previous model blue bezel. Tried all on and first thing I noticed was that the size was the absolute perfect size I had been looking for in an everyday watch. 41mm is just perfect - to me it's the size the Submariner should be. The second thing I liked was it was thicker than the Sub but not huge. Just more substantial. Really feel like for me the size of this watch is just what I have been looking for. Went with the blue bezel Black Bay 41. Tried it on and loved it. The newer red bezel was nice but I just wasn't digging the fake rivets on the side of the band. The previous model does not have this. I liked the Dark model, but as the salesperson pointed out, scratching can be a problem (which I have noticed in other pictures). Too long a story short, I picked up the blue. I think for the price I won't feel nearly as concerned or self conscious as I would with the SD. It will now be my ultra-casual watch and my plan, for now at least, is to keep my SD43 as my more upscale sports model. I'm hoping the two along with my Datejust II can all live in harmony. I'll shut up now, pics..... |

Nice! I've had black and red bezel versions and really liked them. Especially important, you have money left over to buy other watches

Just wanted to comment on this one. I've herd this criticism before of the BB41 but I really don't know where it's coming from. It fits size-wise between the Sea Dweller and Submariner in both diameter and thickness.
Diameter is 41mm (Sub is 40), and thickness is I think for this particular model is 12.7mm which may be nearly identical to a No Date Sub. The profile of the side of the case is thicker than the Sub but the case back doesn't protrude nearly as far so in effect you get a slightly chunkier profile but since it sits completely flat on the wrist it doesn't sit up much higher vs a Sub. I think the bracelet might be 1mm wider than the Sub but someone will have to check that for me. Bracelet looks just right for the watch in my opinion. For people out there that think a Sub is slightly too small for them and a Sea Dweller a little too big, I really think this hits the sweet spot. I know for me as far as size goes it it just perfect. Maybe those with smaller wrists think it's still a little large? Here's how it sits on my 7.5" wrist: |

Hey can I ask you about the eta movement? It was the one pause I had when the saleswoman said this model has the eta movement while the newer model (with the bracelet rivets I didn't like) has the in-house movement.
Is there a big difference between the two? I read that the new movement caused the case to become slightly thicker on the new model. Is the eta a good movement? |
