In search of Daytona in Beijing

I’m going to Beijing in a couple weeks. While I have been “on the list” at my local AD for some time, I’m losing hope in ever getting my hands on one.

Does anyone know the relative availability of hard to find Rolex models (specifically the Daytona white dial) in Beijing? I’m prepared to pay a bit above list if that makes any difference.

I know it’s a long shot, but I would really appreciate any recommendations and/or connections.

Many thanks!

A major Asian city? I'd say long shot.

All luxury items in mainland China are WAY more expensive than USA or other parts of the world. It is the main reason why Chinese travelers buy so much abroad. I know for a fact that Hong Kong has the best prices in China for luxury items. If you have not bought your ticket yet, Seoul Incheon Airport has a duty free Rolex store.

China Msrp is about USD$15000, and chance to find one in AD is about the same as US

no chance at all in Beijing. You might have a shot in Hong Kong with the grey dealer

Don't forget the AD's in the airports.

I have no experience, but I remember reading about it here.

I don't remember which Asian country airport it was at, though.

out of all the countries in the world, I would say it is least likely to get a Daytona or any popular SS model in China. Country with the biggest population in the world and many people became instantly rich with their booming economy

Don’t bother, ppl in China seek friends and family in America and European countries to buy luxury watches for them. Luxury tax in China adds a hefty to the retail price.

You can consider bringing a hulk over to sell. It will sell fast. Lol

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know. I guess I’ll keep my name on the list at my local AD a little while longer.

Don't waste your time in Beijing looking for a Daytona or any other popular Pro model. They're scarfed-up through long-established connections. Of course, going through the motions is an excuse to walk around to see other things, but abandon beforehand all hope of actually succeeding to find one.

Agreed 100%! Not many people buy rolex or any other luxury brands in China! The markup is huge.

You can find pretty much any watch you can think of at the HK grey dealers but be prepared to pay up for it...

Daytonas can be found in Hong Kong, grey dealers have them in stock.
Price is USD 20k non negotiable.

This is from a Tokyo grey dealer 5 days ago, going even higher.

Last year I saw a white ceramic Daytona sitting in the case at the Rolex boutique at the Wynn in Macau. I was dumb as hell for not buying it.

I wonder if it was at MSRP though...

I saw a slightly used black dial at a grey about a year ago for just over $15,000. I wasn't in the market, but looking back someone scored a deal.
